KartRider: Drift

KartRider: Drift

Nah Jan 18, 2023 @ 12:22pm
One of the worst games I have ever seen.
Matches filled with bots on release. Mobile game graphics. Forced nexon account on steam. Uninspired name. Elevator music. Way too handholdy tutorial. Boring garbage forced minigames (if you don't wanna drive around squares forever). Drifting is literally useless in the first few maps (and most likely only maps people will ever get to see before they uninstall). Daily progress limit like in mobile games. False advertising? (in this game's about section on steam it claims to have 380 million players (yeah right...) and also claims to be a "popular franchise" even though nobody ((apparently except for koreans)) has ever heard of it before.) Too many unnecessary queues (maybe if you didn't have 3 queues for every game mode ((solo, duo, squad)) you could actually be playing against real players!) Item mode is a no-skill spamfest. If I had to guess this game is aimed at 8 year olds (based on graphics and character expressions, tutorial style and how they wouldn't know they are only playing with bots.) There are probably many more things I could list but I'll leave it at that. I would truly like to meet the person or people in charge of how this game turned out just to ask them how and why they ended up here. I am honestly just amazed this is a real game that released in 2023, guess worst game of the year is already settled.

No offense to anyone who actually somehow enjoys this game but this just ain't it.

Okay.. I think this game is plenty flawed but this post is just such nonsense?

Queues are a couple seconds at best, i haven't seen any bots, the graphics are on par if not better than most other kart racers, and how is the item mode any worse than stuff like mario kart?

The rest i agree on though, the map restrictions suck a lot, and the tutorial stuff is done incredibly poorly, pausing you mid drift telling you to press buttons, lol.

Regardless item mode was always the side mode, the reason kartrider is popular amongst koreans is because It's the most competitive kart racer there is.. Which is why its extra weird they start you out on bad square maps where to a newbies perspective you can barely drift, and they never teach you you can be building up boost on straight roads as well.

Still, most of this post feels like an undeserved rant.

I never mentioned queues but the reason they are so short is obviously the bots. if you haven't seen any then I must assume this is your first "pvp" game ever which fills its lobbies with bots.. it is incredibly easy to tell by their names. anything very generic with 2-4 numbers at the end is 99% a bot. I didn't see enough to fully analyze the bot naming conventions or how far they go to hide them such as bots with names of different languages and showing them as having ping issues etc (spent about 2 hours). They also very visibly slow down if they are ahead of you. I can assure you they exist and are plenty. maybe once you get past the minigames into harder maps you see them less? Idk. About the graphics it may be somewhat down to taste but I have seen a billion mobile-type games with the same cheap looking wannabe cute artstyle and it has become sort of an immediate red flag to me over time. Now onto the item mode - at least in the early square maps items are spaced like 5 seconds apart and most of them are guaranteed no skill auto aim screw you buttons where in mario kart for example items are much more limited and more skill-intensive on average in their use. Most of them also have better counterplay options.

I'm wondering is waiting queues and bots are a steam thing, I used the nexon launcher since start and never experienced some of the complaints I see here on steam.

I Beta Tested this game 3 times and the graphics are good for me. It looks quite nice on my end. As for bots I haven't played with any that I know of it's been switch, xbox, and PC players some I talk to on mic.

no need to justify yourself to strangers if you don't like something, the game IS popular in Asia, which has a combined population of 4.5 billion people, compared to 1 billion of USA+Europe, so 350+ million registered users doesn't seem far fetched to me
no need to justify yourself to play a game either, if you don't like it drop it. I could persuade you that the game take more skills than you think (honestly, a quick youtube search would easily satisfy this), but I'm fine with being regarded as an 8 yr old if it means I won't meet someone like you in the game - your attitude stinks, try touching some grass

There are no Bots.
Also, you just straight up suck at this game, it's very obvious.

OP is definitely exaggerating a bit, but some of these responses are even worse. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

devs think baby mode is what the West wants. They don't seem to know we play trackmania.
You can turn off bot queues in the options. Bots are meant to fill the slots where people aren't available. If you turn off the bots, the queue times will be longer. There is also no US East/West. It's a global server. So you're beholden to who's playing *right now.* The game's not the best, but it's pretty good for a Mario Kart style game. I think the mobile version has a lot more players if you're interested in that instead. The PC scene is kind of dead at the moment, even though they keep pushing updates. I don't see a whole lot of US players any more. I did back in the alpha/beta phases, but US Citizens seem to have petered off into their own thing and left this game by in large. Peak gaming hours for this are noon to 5pm if you're on the west coast, and 3 to 8 if you're on the east coast. The game's not *dead,* but Nexon's not really helping keep it alive post launch. They're doing seasonal events and battle passes, but until more people start playing, I'd only spend the Lucci that you earn in game, instead of spending real world money on it.
