Its just really disappointing that hotseat is only for 3 players and not for all the factions. The second big mistake is the unlock system for the factions in game. I Immediately asked for a refund... Hope that this will change in the future!

Different people will likely complain about different problems they have; nothing to complain about especially if former done constructively.

Well, you should know that dev himself posted here saying that you can go into exe.config file and change 3->100 if you want.

Faction unlock has a function to prevent instant gratifiers like you to complain how hard a faction is.

Thus - you should ask before judging.

Unlocking factions is to prevent new players from playing the hardest faction, failing terribly at the start, and ask for a refund within 30 minutes. So you start with the more easy ones. You can unlock them after playing some hours.

Hotseat limit to 3 factions has already been changed as someone else asked about it. You might have missed this as it's in a forum topic. The beauty about this game is that you can play hotseat and multiplayer combined. So you can play with your friend and each can control half the countries on the map if you wanted to.

The funny thing is that people always jump the gun, threat and all (refund) without even first coming in the forum and start asking about the thing they did not like and if the devs could or will address those issue. Even though you have two hours of gameplay before you can refund, you still have two weeks to do so... What is wrong to ask first and talk about your issue in order to make an informed decision. Majority of consumer nowaday are so annoying...

I tried to explain the reason behind it here https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197971965446/recommended/1183470/

The reason to have some factions locked is that they would be very difficult to play for newcomers and that would eventually bring just frustration to majority of players. It would be the same like in an advanture game transporting a newcomer to the last scene where he has to fight a mortal enemy.

The factions are locked only in campaign map, for the other scenario(s) and also in custom world maps, you can play as any of those. If you want, I can also tell how you can easily unlock particular faction(s) but we didnt want to make all the factions unlocked by default from the beginning.

We have seen this during beta tests - a newcomer does not go with recommended factions and selects one of the most fragile and weak ones (like the tribe on the north). For these factions, there is not much to do at the beginning and it is very difficult to survive. Both these aspects lead to frustration and eventual bad first impressions from such player.
I am sorry that this worked the other way for you but I dont think there is a solution which would please everyone.

There is definitely no "payment" or any other condition involved in unlocking these factions - you just play the game and they will eventually unlock.

I can also tell you an easy way how to unlock particular faction(s). We just dont want to make it being unlocked by default for everyone.

not always, but shallow people often react in a such way.
