That's like complaining that your 2001 Powerbook G4 can't run modern games... or any games since it's a Mac.
When using something like that, the transfer speeds will not be great. Especially next to a 5000M/Bs of a NVMe drive.
It will work, but you will be doing a lot of waiting when loading for any game with large assets :(
I use my 2 3TB HDDs for storing stuff like that an also for games I am not playing right now so I don't have to download them again...but never for actually playing a game.
