How do I get more than one savegame?

Maybe I'm kinda stupid... but how do I get more than one savegame when the game only saves automatically?
I made it to chapter 10 and had to cheat because Amicia and pals were surrounded by enemies (and rats)
If I had a savegame five minutes earlier I could have made it

I'm afraid is not supported in this game, the game works on autosave alone, that being said, there are checkpoints you can revert back to, if needed, I think the game saves every time you get to another "sub-chapter", hence why the sub-chapters exist. You do have manual save slots, but these are not for manually saving the game at certain point, these are for saving multiple progresses.

How do I revert to checkpoints / sub-chapters?

go to main menu after selecting the save slot, there is an option "Chapter Selection", you should be able to revert to any chapter there, as you click on say Chapter 10, you should get the checkpoints (sub-chapters) that you can load to.

I just realized you probably mean sections
I thought selecting a chapter started the chapter from the start?

unless they change something, you should be able to replay the sections rather than a whole chapter.
