Suddenly game is freezing...

As title says, I have been enjoying the game and right at the start of chapter 6 the game froze... I could hear audio and my computer didn't lock up... Just froze. Only way to close the game is task manager, tried again and got further into chapter 6 and it just did it again... Is this a known issue? I have a 4080... Just playing on Ultra no RT in 1440p...

Check your CPU/GPU temps?, Maybe something is too high, this would indicate it.

Perhaps monitor them as you play, so that you can take a look what was the temp at the time the game froze.

Random freezes after some time in game is most likelly overheating component.

Always keep HWMonitor open at active! Temps were perfect :)

Ok, if temps are good, now, we can look into the game itself, try verifying game files, maybe some files got corrupted and cause problems.
If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the game.

Did you find the problem? I am having same exact issue: game freezes and I can hear sound. It started happening to me at Chapter II.

I've tried:
-Changing and testing graphics downgrading them, of course.
-Checking thru Steam, files integrity
-Downgrading drivers to set on day to june 2023
-Changing game files to another HDD SSD thru Steam options

Any help is very welcome or knowing if (and how) you solved it. Thanks and sorry for my english.

Same problem / Chapter 5

My config :
RTX 4090 ROG STRIX G.OC WHITE

Trident Z5 RGB 2x32GB 6400Mhz

Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K

2x 2TB SN850X NVMe Black HS

Game freeze but restart after maybe 5 secs

From my perspective this issue is game engine related cause i never have this problem in any other game but it happened sometimes in Innocence and came back in Requiem yesterday in Chapter 2 for the first time, using a complete different PC.

For me it always happens after opening a door followed by a cut scene. After opening the door, the screen turns black and I still can hear the Audio for a while but the the screen stays black. Then the whole PC is reacting extremly slow and it took me 3 minutes till I was able to close the game via Task Manager.

Since this issue i played another few hours without any stuttering or problems at all. I checked the same sequence a few times and it never happened again.

In Windows events are only some entries for not responding Steamwebhelper so I have no clue what the real issue is why this is happening.


--Hardware Temps are fine
--All Drivers are fresh and up to date
--Played 300h Cyberpunk with RTX Psycho before on the same PC without any similar issue or crash

After finishing the game I am sure it's due drivers.
When this problem was happening to me I checked Uncharted and I had the very same problem. I can assure it's same problem because the similarities with Plague Tale: game freezes, music and sound still running plus I can tabulate and open the task manager without any problem, this is, the rest of the system works fine and I can do anything else even close immediately the game perfectly: nothing else is frozen. The problem used to appear in my case when I did with mouse fast camera movements. What I did is downgrade the drivers to another one that was recommended to me in a thread I oppened in Nvidia forums explaining that problem. I don't know if everybody that has that problem has Nvidia GPU too but it's worth a chance to do that downgrade anyway. Now I have up to date the drivers and I had no freezings in any other game, so that increases the probability that the problem were that and has been corrected, but if you guys still having it, try a downgrade to a some versions before last one. Hope it helps.

im just hitting this problem too. chapter 10. played pretty much flawlessly for 15 hrs now all the sudden i cant get 2mins past my load. i was noticing my temps werent running as high as they were, while playing before hand. im running it on a ryzen 5600 and 6800xt. on default setting at the next step down from 1080 haha. it was playing beautifully up til today.

Try what I suggested and see if this fixes the problem.

Hmm meanwhile i finished the game with NVIDIA 546.29 driver and the problem occured only once as I described in chapter 2 and then, never again. No freezes, no crashes...nothing...

When I downgraded I to some previous (not the previous immediately tone) version I never had the problem again, which was happening too with Uncharted 4. I played two games and I had no crash. I am up to date now and didn't happened neither and I played some different games. Hope downgrading versions work to those whom had the problem too.

I'm having the same issue in Chapter 1 at the end of the Bee Hives cutscene with Hugo. I just got the game and can't get past this! It's a black screen. I hear sound for a while, but it's frozen. Only the task manager will stop it. I'll try downgrading my NVIDIA driver and see if it works. It's so frustrating not to be able to get past the very beginning!

Did you tried what we suggested? That fixed the problem for me. Never happened again.
