Sophia feels a little bit out of place
Although she was part of most of Amicia's journey, I get a strong feeling that she was added or at least many of the parts where she was in were added after the story got finished being written.

Idk, the dialogue between Amicia and Sophia and her overall participation in events she's not even needed feels a little bit.. forced? I should say? This is just my opinion tho. I feel like Arnaud was more apart of the story than Sophia is even though he had less screentime.

I agree. I havent quite finished the game yet but the whole time I was on the island with her I kept thinking to myself that its like they took a supporting character from uncharted and placed her in this setting. she definitely stands out as one of the least interesting characters.

Sophia certainly felt like she was "Along for the ride". It would have been better if there was someone Amicia's age; like 'Innocence' with the orphans, she would have related to that character better.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw it this way. I felt like someone just put their OC character in there.

Yeah, it felt like somebody -really- wanted her to be included in the story. But idk. it's just a feeling.

She really needed something to do beyond, "Flat support character who immediately befriends the company". As much as Arnaud can feel the same way (along for the ride), they tried to give him some depth.
Swap Sophia for someone's Amicia's age; perhaps a love interest who could have brought her back down like Lucas did, and we have a stronger character. Unlike Lucas, though, this new dude would have been able to tell Amicia she was being too hot-headed.

She just felt so out of place design wise beyond the island, even a simple change of clothes to blend in with the later stages would have been an improvement, I am exaggerating a bit but it felt like I had a colourful clown following me to the last serious stages of the game. I feel if she took a back seat after the island and another character stepped in it would have felt more organic. Why did the devs have such a hard on for this character I'll never know.

She is a fierce woman of color and wears exotic Asiatic-style clothing. This is kind of a wet dream that tickles the fancies of a white European no?

It also appeals to their sense of morality because lately, it seems that they think they would appear less racist and supportive of women's rights if they included women like Sophia in their games/movies/tv shows, even if they don't make sense narratively.

Sophia, to me, was put there so they could pat themselves on the back.

A flat (does not change during the story), diverse side-character that is immediately on good terms with the protagonist pretty much sumerizes her role. If she was given some depth, then I think Asobo could have avoided this reasonable acusation that Sophia's position in the story is more akin to an overused trope, rather than a noteworthy character.
Without more to do in the story, she is little more than a tokenized minority; shoved into a story to be a forced ally of the protagonist.

Her character is contrived. Amicia saves her life and suddenly her pirate days are over and she feels compelled to hang out with them to the bitter end.

It would have been better to have Hugo and Amicia’s mother stay with them to give her better character development.

Somebody behind the production team who had too much power they shouldn't have must have squeezed that character in there.

That’s a possibility.

I do still like the character but feel that she should have been a minor role.

I love that both voice actors for Amicia and Sophia play the game on YouTube and react.
