Windows games run on Linux.
https://releases.ubuntu.com/22.04/
A lot of them do. And some work way better than others and can fluctuate from game update to update. ESO for example has really bad graphical glitches under Linux since like 3 expansions ago.
But when I wanna play a game, I don't wanna have to try messing with trying dif versions of proton, hope I can find a Lutris installer for games not on Steam. I don't even know how you install and play Battle.net, U-play, Epic store games etc. And don't wanna deal with it if it involves the terminal etc. when I can just download and install on Windows.
Also I couldn't make use of my Game Pass PC sub of course, which is how I will be playing this particular game.
I'm thrilled Linux gaming has improved so much over the last few years. Choice and competition is always good. But it's just not worth the hassle to me.
Linux is not only about gaming, it's about everything.
Everytime a new game appears on Steam we get these Linux and Mac users coming on the forum with their:
Where's the Mac version, where's the Linux version
Why isn't there a Mac version, why isn't there a Linux version
Is there gonna be a Mac version, is there gonna be a Linux version.
Why should Devs waste their time and resources making games for operating systems that hardly anybody uses ?/
Exactly!! And these OSes doesn't have what it takes to run games at their full capacity or even close!
I'm actually surprised that some devs wastes their time, effort and resources to make their games available on Linux and Mac!! 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I am able to play on high settings with DLSS (balanced) enabled, 80% resolution scale in 1080p on 40-60+ FPS on an MSI laptop with a 3060 and Arch Linux.
All this with OBS recording enabled.
Runs pretty well IMO.
The pb, I may watch some streams, spoil myself to a point even if a native elf/linux version is out I would not buy and play it.
(ooops it seems those may be the same group of ppl than you have in ubisoft and
in microsoft in my country... bad omens).
maybe a native version would be worse.
I bought this game and I confirm that this game run perfectely in linux ( I play this game on my Mint Distro (Kernel 5.15)
-> Not needed to enable Proton: Install and play!
Enjoy this game on your Linux Distro. :)
Which game are you talking about? Because this very game does not even propose to download an elf/linux version. Maybe you had that horrible proton enable without knowing it.
I know that technically, only win64+vulkan support via a lean wine build is reasonable. But most if not all win64-only games (aka windoz) won't run with such a lean windows compatibility layer, maybe ID software games would though.
All that to say, I did watch steams, and saw nearly the whole game now (I am 99% spoiled :( I know it is all on me). This game is beautiful (but does not reach an horizon forbidden west), and its type is mostly a narrative "corridor game".
Spoiler: Proton is frickin' magic! Native ports are overrated anyway. A lot of them are not maintained well, don't support multiplayer properly, etc.
