I hope people will buy this game well and we will maybe get a DLC with additional content
1. Why were there so many cats in the barrow? Romans and Greeks didn't care for cats... the civilization that did was Egyptians.
2. How is a demon, bound in a chamber, able to exert power over people and her anyway? Or was other people receiving visions too?
3. How did the three first excavators get inside the "song" door. And why didn't Leonard mention to bring an instrument?
4. Never found out why we were given a match at the start of the game. It wasn't used with the lantern... while every other object was used at least once.
5. I had all sorts of tools, and yet, never could I open the dresser drawer that the wood had gotten warped stuck in.
6. Saw a dead crow in the faerie ring, right before I opened the barrow. Oddity.
7. How was Saxnot able to help our father leave the barrow? Also why did he help our father?
8. Where was Saxnot in that barrow anyway?
9. That Barrow was surprisingly free of spiders and rats.
10. The big problem for me is: how did they seal up the barrow? Most of the steps I performed entering the barrow, didn't imply someone came before me and did the steps in reverse. For example, the two panels on the first door, leading deeper inside, implied that the right panel was firmly affixed, and the other had to be chiseled off.
As for the sealing, my theory is that there was super ancient temple of the Abraxas and there was the goblin who happened to live in the barrow on top of the temple. We are exploring the temple parts which ment to be opened. We do NOT see anything about the sealing. We never get any help from goblin - but he did helped the father. I think if all the content was released we would have more interactions with goblin and had some roots, and in the end we could chose either give blood or do something else. As for now we are having incomplete story - that's how I feel
1. Whatever happened to the girl watching after the boy playing with the sword?
2. How did Jane giggle in the Badger hole, when she clearly wasn't in it?
3. Why was the badger wearing a robe?
4. Why would she think that un-binding, the binding would actually help things. Especially as she learns from the drunk, that they need her blood to perform a sacrifice anyway.
5. If the cats are all in her imagination, then what was causing the noise from the hole?
6. Was the musical jig played by the blonde girl, on her new fiddle important for anything, or was it just to put our character to sleep.
7. I skipped the guitar player's song. Did I miss something important?
8. Who was the guy playing with that knife anyway? Never see them again, and there aren't that many houses around.
9. If Leonard was bedridden when we arrived, who did we see in that alley and how did his glove get there, before the first day starts?
10. The Lord James is super friendly at the Beck, but when I first meet him at the forest with the fallen logs, he is super standoffish and rude. Weird that he knew we were coming and knew what we looked like, and yet started off boorish.
11. Who was the robed man in the bathroom with the drunk, before the first day?
12. Why would they have a door leading to the outside, in the men's toilet?
13. Where was the women's toilet? And why didn't we need to use it at least once?
14. There is a menu, but yet we never eat anything. Got drunk a few times though.
15. We never find out what the emergency was with her assistant Kenneth.
16. The postmaster never returns to Bewlay.
17. Did Wally get cursed by the fair folk?
18. What happened to the mushroom circle in her flashbacks. It was in one, but not the others. But the aftermaths of her garden excavation are present.
19. Despite being in the rain a lot, her clothes are never wet and she doesn't have to hang them up to dry. Unlike Leonard's clothes that were hung up to dry.
20. Some doors never open, despite knocking on them at all times of day, on each of the days. Like the cobblers house, when the light is on, still gets me the response = no one is home. Why is that?
2 she was in the hole, when we followed her 1st time, spend a match, and when we went for the lantern and returned 2 time she already left, that's how I think it was. I was wondering what if we do the lantern quest before entering the hole 1st time, is it even possible?
4 probably some leftovers from cut content I guess, because it indeed doesn't make sense
7 nothing important, while musician was singin there were couple of purple glitches and that's it
9 Leonard lies a lot
10 the Lord is being his annoying self)
11 it was Leonard, that's how he lost his glove
14 probably that mechanic didn't made the cut either
15 I think Kenneth is dead. "Grave emergency" - maybe it's not just a wordplay
1. If Saxnot knew that the demon was bound, why stay in the Barrow where it would eventually control them? No one's resistance lasts forever.
2. Why do the seeds glow purple?
3. How did flowers grow in the top-part of the Barrow, covering the boarded up section. There was no sunlight and the flowers weren't glowing.
4. The game mentioned (can't remember where) that the Barrow existed in a place between our dimension and another dimension. Yet, I found no real proof of this when inside the Barrow.
5. Normally when something grows over something else, it causes anything organic underneath to rot. So, how is it those boards under those flowers, were free of rot?
6. In an excavation, any object is considered extremely valuable, and our character even says so herself. So why is it there is pottery at all, in the Barrow itself? WOuldn't they have removed it 25 years ago, and set it aside carefully. I could understand not doing the same with stuff deeper inside.
7. You'd think that an expert excavator such as herself, would have checked her oil levels before going deep inside an unknown tomb. Heck, she'd have packed herself some water and lunch too.
8. Who exactly boarded up the tomb, inside the Barrow anyway? It implies that her father and samuel had to escape quickly, and barely made it out of the place alive. So if they barely made it out alive, who was brave enough to work inside the barrow and not get killed?
9. If Saxnot was controlled by the demon, why did it just wait for us to come down and give our blood willingly? Why not ambush us in the darkness, and take our blood by force?
10. Where was the demon hiding anyway? Sure the room wasn't well lit, where we found the binding tablet, but was it elsewhere or just hiding in the darkness, making less noise than a dead mouse?
1. Why couldn't we have seen the reveal of the Demon's appearance?
I suspect it's bewwcause unknown often is more scary. If you\ll see a werewolf tou'll be like Oh, OK, why it's that scary anyway? Just give me some silber bullets. Vampire? Bring holy water, garlik and a few wooden stakes. Such creatures are dangerous but you at least know what they are and how to fight with them. If you have no idea what is it, you don't know how to fight it and how to defend yourself. So unknown backed by your imagination will be probably better than anything devs could came up with. And the game has some lovecraftian vibe, so unclear force is more in line with Lovecraft's works.
3. How did Herbert get into our room? 1. Why were there so many cats in the barrow?
Magic. Seeig that there are bunch of cats in the barrow, I suspect they have something to do with Saxnot or Abraxus. Perhaps one of them have been using Herbert to watch what's happening outside of the barrow?
4. What happened to Eunice... the goat?
Maybe just browsed elsewhere. Or maybe it was the same goat that didn't want to let you pass in the barrow. Remember when you tried milk it, you saw a vision where it turned black like this goat in the barrow?
5. Why did the stone door shut her into the Barrow? If Leanord and her dad, managed to escape, shouldn't it stay open as long as the three stone inscriptions were in place?
Abraxus didn't want her to leave, so he shut the door (maybe using Saxnot to do this), so she wouldn't have any choice except going deeper.
6. Never figured out the A.R. inscription on the rock, right before the Barrow. Unless that is short for Abraxus Rex...
Probably.
7. Why did they need to go to such lengths to seal up the barrow?
Binding proved to be a disaster. They were panicked people who didn't think rationally at the moment. What's more, they couldn't be sure if the spell really worked.
11. Was the Worm, the kid with the wooden sword was talking about, was Abraxus Rex?
Perhaps. Some knowledge of Abraxus could remain as folktales.
12. Where did her father get that lead tablet? Or for that matter know that it would properly seal the demon in place.
It turned out that Thomasina didn\t really know her father so well. Maybe he gained this knowledge during his excavations. Or maybe he really was an occultist in the first place and his archeological excavations were just means to find forgotten knowledge?
13. If her father sealed the demon in place, then that would imply that the demon was free before he sealed it there. Assuming that the demon then was the cause of the death and famines... and sealing it ended that stuff.
Probably. The barrow was a place where you could travel between worlds. I think that Abraxus just entered our world or was trying to enter thich started the plages.
14. Why was Samuel's hand ripped off by an unseen force?
It seems to be obvious that Abraxus knew they came to bind him, so he attacked.
16. Who gave her the journal anyway?
Magic? Maybe Saxnot (controlled by Rex)? Or just Shoulder pushed it under the door.
17. In the flashback of her mother burning pages, was that the journal she received?
I think these were notes drom other excavations. This journal probably remained in Bewlay in the Barrow or Shoulder has kept it.
18. If her father suffered a terrible plight and samuel was scarred so badly he committed suicide, what was Leonard's fate? 19. If Leonard was part of the plot to save the demon, why didn't he fight against her father and samuel, when they were trying to bind the demon?
Two theories here. First, Leonard was demon's ally all the time and he sabotaged binding ritual in some way. Thomasina's father went into a coma, Abraxus hasn't been bound bound (or banished from our world) entirely. So the demon didn't hurt his servant.
Second. Maybe the ritual just fired naturally as her father made mistake, lacked needed knowledge or just Abraxuz have proven to be too strong. Then the demon' could spare Leonard bacause he deemed him suitably week-minded (or susceptible because of this contact) to corrupt and he poisoned his mind through subtle influence through all the years.
20. If the Lord was so well liked, why didn't he just do the excavation by himself? Prepared the way to his demon?
Thomasina had to give her blood willingly. Wouldn't it be a touch suspicious if they already excavated and opened the barrow and wanted her to come to Bewlay just to bleed on the "altar"?
2. How is a demon, bound in a chamber, able to exert power over people and her anyway? Or was other people receiving visions too?
Probably the binding ritual wasn't entireli successful and Abraxus could still use some sliver of his power outside, just like prisoner who can't escape but can shout loud enough to be heard outside of their proson. Or he did it through Saxnot whom he subjugated eventually. And Saxnot as a magical entity had some magical powers himself.
3. why didn't Leonard mention to bring an instrument?
IMO definite oversight. He couldn't know or count on Thomasina finding needed instrument by sheer luck.
6. Saw a dead crow in the faerie ring, right before I opened the barrow. Oddity
The dead bird was there much earlier. I think it was just a small thing meant to biuld a mood. No secret meaning in that.
8. Where was Saxnot in that barrow anyway?
As magical creature he was invisible to mortals unless he wanted to be seen. And the demon definitely didn't want Saxnot to speak with Thomasina and maybe try to warn her.
9. That Barrow was surprisingly free of spiders and rats.
All these cast had to eat something. Or animals just intinctively felt it's dangerous place (except cats, which probably were controlled by Rex or Saxnot).
Inconsistency of puzzles and plot. Sadly, it happens core often I'd want.
1. Whatever happened to the girl watching after the boy playing with the sword?
Got back home?
4. Why would she think that un-binding, the binding would actually help things. Especially as she learns from the drunk, that they need her blood to perform a sacrifice anyway.
Because strong emotions plus ho
pe to see her father healthy again and common sense don't mix? I was really dissapointed there was no way to make reasonable choice.
5. If the cats are all in her imagination, then what was causing the noise from the hole?
Hallucinations could be also audible, not only visible. If they were hallucinations at all.
6. Was the musical jig played by the blonde girl, on her new fiddle important for anything, or was it just to put our character to sleep
I think it was just an excuse to give her vision and the needed instrument.
6. Was the musical jig played by the blonde girl, on her new fiddle important for anything, or was it just to put our character to sleep
13. Where was the women's toilet? And why didn't we need to use it at least once?
One toilet for rceryone. Such times. It's just one of the quirks of games. When is isn't survival, you dont really need to eat and drink, never use toilet and sleep only ocasionally.
15. We never find out what the emergency was with her assistant Kenneth
It was just a plot device. But I'd like to know why he couldn't came too. Maybe Shoulder and lord made sure of that?
17. Did Wally get cursed by the fair folk?
Who knows?
19. Despite being in the rain a lot, her clothes are never wet and she doesn't have to hang them up to dry.
It's just a game. Not everything must be hyper realistyc.
1. If Saxnot knew that the demon was bound, why stay in the Barrow where it would eventually control them?
Probably fought him as long as he could but there was too late when he realized what's happening.
2. Why do the seeds glow purple? 3. How did flowers grow in the top-part of the Barrow, covering the boarded up section. There was no sunlight and the flowers weren't glowing
To be otherworldly enough.
4. The game mentioned (can't remember where) that the Barrow existed in a place between our dimension and another dimension. Yet, I found no real proof of this when inside the Barrow
I'd have thought that the facts that Saxnot needed to watch this place to keep anything evil from crossing worlds, Rex has chosen this place to enter our world and the laws of nature didn't work (light from nowhere, plants growing instantly) were proof enough.
5. Normally when something grows over something else, it causes anything organic underneath to rot. So, how is it those boards under those flowers, were free of rot?
Magic. ;)
6. In an excavation, any object is considered extremely valuable, and our character even says so herself. So why is it there is pottery at all, in the Barrow itself? WOuldn't they have removed it 25 years ago, and set it aside carefully.
They were trying to bind a demon, it wasn't real archeological expedition.
9. If Saxnot was controlled by the demon, why did it just wait for us to come down and give our blood willingly? Why not ambush us in the darkness, and take our blood by force?
In magic, intention counts. If she wouldn't really want to break the bindings, nothing would happen.
10. Where was the demon hiding anyway? Sure the room wasn't well lit, where we found the binding tablet, but was it elsewhere or just hiding in the darkness, making less noise than a dead mouse?
On the other side, or one foot over the "doorstep" of our world.
20. Some doors never open, despite knocking on them at all times of day, on each of the days. Like the cobblers house, when the light is on, still gets me the response = no one is home. Why is that? 14. There is a menu, but yet we never eat anything. 8. Who was the guy playing with that knife anyway? Never see them again, and there aren't that many houses around. 5. I had all sorts of tools, and yet, never could I open the dresser drawer that the wood had gotten warped stuck in.
Let me ask a personal question. Is it your first time?... with point & clicks? In nearly if not all of them you'll find some objests and people that really don't matter or can't be used and they're just additional active things to make world more interactable, add a flavour or let the protagonist show some of their character by commenting something. There are often people whose only purpose is give you some needed item. It's perfectly normal.
I played one Point and Click adventures in the 90s: EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus. I completed it, but then I got into real-time games, like C&C Red Alert 1, Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, and Duke Nukem 3D, and never came back to PNC. I noticed this one, Incantamentum in the Steam Next Fest a year ago, and liked it, so I suppose I went into this one blind and a total noob. Like a person playing Supreme Commander for the first time and never having played a Strategy game before that.
I've also played a lot of RPGs, and in them, anytime someone gets introduced to you or there is an interactable object or you can enter a building, it serves some purpose to the story or the mechanics... so I assumed the same to be true here.
The doors you can knock on, yet nobody answers - Thomasina is very unwelcome here. It's entirely possible that people are just, you know, ignoring her. For what it's worth, the cobbler's lit window we find out is Mrs. De Plancy's home, whose husband has passed. During the day she's out and about and at night she's probably not about to open the door all by herself.
As for the questions about the "fair folk". I think with Saxnot as proof we can conclude that the fae are real. They tricked Thomasina to crawl into the badger hole, which is a very fae thing to do. The crow seems to be linked to the fair folk in some way, waiting by the fairy circle after you dig up the doll. Saxnot says he's slowly been corrupted by the evil in the barrow, which most likely affected the rest of the land as well - right before you go to the Barrow you can find the crow dead. It's also possible there are faeries we never got to see (the worm for example) in our short stay in Bewlay, that the locals would be aware of.
There's greek, persian, hebrew, roman and egyptian influences in this figure, so stuff like "cats not really being a greek thing" wouldn't be an issue(besides, greeks and egyptians mixed... A LOT). Hell, this place being in england wouldn't be an issue - Gnostics were extremely secretive but i guess some of them could have been among Romans and moved to the province of Britannia.
If the game isn't finished as some of you suggest, i think it might mean whoever continues as the main character, might find Abraxas to be the tip of the iceberg - over him still stands the God of the material realm known as Demiurge, Saklas and some other names. And above the demiurge there is a complicated system of 'Gods'(called Aeons, all part of a 'pleroma') feminine and masculine each paired with one another and "emanating"('creating') Gods below them - Demiurge was merely a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up experiment by one God known as Sophia(wisdom).
...i love Gnosticism and would recommend diving into it if the mythology if this game at all intrigues you guys. Keep in mind all the things i said are merely my interpretation of those myths, which are pretty damn complicated and like to contradict each other.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraxas
I guess? It's a different voice-actor, in any case. But I have to admit, I was also a bit disappointed that Saxnot's voice sounded like a very common calm human with echo effect, not even a tiny bit creepy like his looks.
I don't think she ever learns that. It would make no sense for her to learn everything that Arthur witnessed and then just continue with her plans without even commenting on it. I think the flashback was just for us players and then the Lord enters the scene and manages to shoo Arthur away before he can actually tell Thomasina what he saw. Granted, this could have been made clearer though.
That being said, it's still kind of odd that she wouldn't even hesitate to spill her blood to unbind some supernatural being after what she read on the tablet, and after all the creepy stuff she's heard and experienced in the temple firsthand (and even if you don't know Latin or Greek, I think an English language speaker would recognize the word DAEMONIUM. ;P)
Not everything has to be spelled out. Just as we don't see every single scene that's taking place on Thomasina's days (e.g. washing, dressing/undressing - does she always sleep in her explorer clothes? I don't think so, but in the morning we see her get up from the bed in them), we also don't see every single place she moves through, e.g. the stretch of moor between the cairn and Leonard's house. Think of the rooms and scenes like panels in a comic book - your imagination has to connect one image to the next and fill out any blanks between them.
When Thomasina goes to her room through the inn door at the back - do you think her room is directly behind it? Or maybe there is a staircase and/or a corridor with doors to other guest rooms that we don't get to see because it's not important (like the room the innkeeper reserved for Kenneth)? In the same way, maybe the door to the toilets leads to a small corridor with doors to ladies and gents but since one of them is inacessible at the moment anyway and plays no part in the game, it's skipped and you find yourself directly in the men's lavatory.
Some details are intentionally vague or unimportant to the story, or help create the overall atmosphere/lore of the game.
