An experiment measuring the spin value of balls
Is there anyone who knows how much 1 bonus point on a ball really make a difference?
How can I compare and measure the importance and impact on the game of bonus points on my clubs, ball and apparels?
How much gear do I have to buy and apparels do I have to unlock to get enough control of my game when approaching the more difficult and fastest of greens?

In this topic I´ve made a little experiment about the bonus value for Spin on ball using Iron club approaching green.

You can get spin bonus from a club, apparel and the ball.
The best ball for spin is the Titleist pro v1x; 5,4 (1175 credits)
The highest value for spin on ironsets: Tailormade P790 got: 4,5 (3595 credits)
The only apparel items I´ve found having the iron spin bonus is:
Foxwind shoes: at lvl 8: 62 points
Swing edge shirt at lvl 8: 58 points (The epic Max polo shirt have iron spin too)
I havent unlocked more apparels with iron spin. Maybe because i dont play sponsor rounds with a pack cap of Tour master and higher. Please tell if anyone knows how this works!

Because im not lvl 100 yet I still have the lvl 30 version of Callaway Mavrik irons. Spin: 3
(The Ben Hogan edge set i cheaper and have Spin 3,5)

THE EXPERIMENT
Equipment:
Total apparel: spin 120 points. Iron club: spin 3.0
Course:
Hole 1 Pepple beach 154 yds to pin. 9ft uphill.
Greenspeed Tournament (12)
Hiting with 6 iron max length 160 yds
Landing on greensurface:

TEST 1:
5-7mph straight in my back.
Using a ball with no bonus at all:
Hiting with no backspin. Carry 138 yds Roll 16 yds Total: 154 yds
Hiting with max backspin: Carry 140 yds Roll 13 yds Total: 153 yds

TEST 2:
5-7mph almost straight in my back. (2 o´clock)
Using WGT tour s-ball: Distance 1, Spin: 2 (43 credits)
Hiting with no backspin. Carry 142 yds Roll 16 yds Total: 158 yds
Hiting with max backspin: Carry 144 yds Roll 6 yds Total: 150 yds

TEST 3:
5-7mph almost straight in my back. (2 o´clock)
Using Volvik Vivid: Distance 4, Spin: 4 (400 credits)
Hiting with no backspin. Carry 145 yds Roll 16 yds Total: 161 yds
Hiting with max backspin: Carry 147 yds Roll 2 yds Total: 149 yds

This is of course not a perfect scientifically experiment. The wind direction wasn´t 100% excacly the same between the different tests. And i probably didnt hit from the excactly same spot. But the main test was to see the difference when using backspin and not on the same ball. The results above are a cut from the average of hiting over and over again a number of times.

SUMMARY:
Test 1: When not having a bonus value for Spin on my ball it seems that all my other spin-bonuses on my irons and apparel doesnt make that much difference. A slightly longer carry and a few yards shorter roll.
Test 2: A little more difference when using backspin having a spin bonus on the ball.
The wind carries the ball 2 more yards even in this test but the roll appears to be shorter.
Test 3: A major improvment with roll by 14 yards shorter. But This ball had a 4 point bonus for distance also that made the ball land futher in on the green and made the result in comparison to the other tests more different. The green on hole 1 at Pebble beach is not flat.

The bonusfeature Spin is hard to measure. There is ofcourse many other factors combining to if the result will make your ball roll longer or shorter or even stop and spin back. Your bonus features on the golfclubs and the apparels does effect your gameplay. Even if it doesnt show in this experiment. For example the distance bonus is very easy to spot and measure an gives you a clear confirmation on the change.
