A tip for using less life essence is through static mutator mechanics. The full skinny on scaling vs static here

But essentially statics become traits when they're absorbed and any bonuses and maluses they had when equipped disappear.
So say you want your entire party to have Lightfoot as a trait - keep multiples around but only level one and use that on the same party member until they are close to absorbing it. You'll get a dialogue telling you how long the process takes, swap the levelled one for an unlevelled one at the last minute. Then rinse and repeat. Doing this with all statics you want on multiple party members will free up Life Essence for other mutators.
