Villager questions
Do I need to level villagers to improve weaponsmith trait?
Are upgrades randomly triggered by keeping them in reserve (so for example I can't send them to scout)?

I have a few blacksmiths that i managed to get very early game but they were like lvl 1~3, so i began rising their lvls up to 20 to see if there is any difference.
Until this very moment i couldn't tell any differences and it seems it is all random.

Villagers will randomly improve the weaponsmith/armourer trait when they upgrade your gears

While we are on this topic, would be good to get definitive answers. I have confirmed that
a) Weapons/Armour can be improved multiple times, i.e a shield that got improved to +1 can be improved to +3.
b) +3 weapons/armour have the same damage/shatter/protection rates as a Rare version of the same material. +4 is a bit higher (albeit without the possibility of an ability that Rare's have), and +5 has the same stats as a legendary of the same material (without the great ability that a Legendary has). Still might be worth using +4 or +5 over a Rare version if the ability is marginal, or if the ability is worthless against certain enemies (i.e having Bleeding Criticals versus Necroreavers), due to the extra damage/shatter/protection.
c) Weapons/Armour can even be improved if they are lying around in the inventory (for a while kept switching them up so that people would be holding upgradable ones since I wasn't certain that inventory ones could be improved, albeit it in earlier versions on Lp's i had seen they were)
d) An obvious one, but Rare/Legendary weapons/armour can't be upgraded.
e) No point in leveling Weaponsmith/Armourers as their description correctly alludes to, only way they get stronger (allegedly) is via their Perk level improving.

Questions are:
1) Can an weapon/armour be improved multiple times up to +5 (i believe so, but hasn't happened yet for me).
2) Is it beneficial to have multiple of a weaponsmith/armourer, or should duplicates be sent out to scout/scavenge (I believe it is worth it to have multiples since stuff can be improved multiple times)
3) What is the percentage chance that a weapon/armour will get upgraded each day?
4) Most importantly, is the upgrade chance independent for each weapon/armour. Meaning if i had 10 shields, would they each have a 5% (dependent on the exact number from last question, i have seen the numbers 4% to 6% but i have no idea) chance of being upgraded each turn, or does each armourer only have X percent chance to improve one armour a day. This matters the most, because IF each item has an independent chance of upgrading, then there is no downside to having tons of equipment lying around to be upgraded (presumably also increasing the speed of the Weaponsmith/Armourer skill improving). It would also make that a lucrative strategy to maximize trillium, by allowing them to get upgraded so that they can be dismantled for more value. Only Major downside to this is that one's inventory would get clogged up.
5) What is the exact impact of of the Armourer Perk or Weaponsmith Perk level improving? I have seen a Weaponsmith with Level 3 Weaponsmith Perk still only improve a weapon to +1.
6) What are the criteria for the Armourer/Weaponsmith Perks improving? Is it dependent on luck (if so what are the chances), quality of the gear improved (i.e improving Mithril is better than improving Steel), sheer amount of upgrades done by said armourer/weaponsmith (i believe i have seen perk level go up more with less upgrades on one villager than with an other that had done more upgrades), or the amount of improvements in total strength increase for weapons/armour (i.e to get from perk level 1 to perk level 2, a total of +5 improvement in stats needed to be done. Maybe then to get from level 2 to level 3, a total of +10 improvements needs to be done).
7) Is it harder to improve weapons/armourer of higher quality. So would it be harder to improve viridium/mithril stuff over say steel/silver? Or are upgrades equal regardless of the quality.

Tldr= A lot of questions, very little certainty, so it would be nice if the Dev can chime in with definitive answers to something that is unknowable to the player without access to the code.

You do -not- need to level them up, they will improve their skills independantly of their level, just by hanging out in your roster.

I would like to see a small (very small) trillium cost added to keeping a blacksmith or armorer in the company, but with this cost make these employees actually worth keeping them around
allow them to upgrade magic items
and make the upgrades come sooner
right now I can walk around 1st level map and if one of these specialists upgrade something, next fight I find something better and throw away his hard work that took him months to make

right now I never pick up one of these guys cause they just serve no purpose
its to easy to just hit the black market, use those weapons till you're ready to advance to the next level and hit the next market
these guys just cant upgrade enchanted stuff so I dont need them

They make great Flesh reserves. About all they do currently.

Could you add villager to human start roster?
Villager speedrun is well-known olympic sport.
