what other Wurm-like games you all playing?
Played Wurm for awhile before Steam then for a little after Steam release. Curious what other games Wurm players have delved into that scratch the Wurm Online itch but in different ways?

there really aren't any. lots of games with bits and pieces of the things i love about Wurm, but there's really not any other Wurm-like games out there. guess it all depends on what itches Wurm scratches for you. For me it's the whole package.

Some games i've tried that do cover some aspects of Wurm are Valheim, Ark, Minecraft, Life is Feudal

Certainly NOT Wurm. Some unWurm like games like Valheim and Empyrion. If I want to waste hours at a time doing basically nothing I'll play something fun, not Wurm. How can you possibly trust devs who promise something two years ago and STILL don't deliver. Sad Sacks all.

I hear Albion online is pretty good. I would love to come back to Wurm but the lack of focus on this certain element; that this game is mostly PVE and PvP feels like an equal mess of chaos. If they could merge the two successfully and have a grand map, with a safe and spectacular starting zone to venture out from rather the current spawns.

Like I'm not sure exactly how they could do it. But I bet merged all the servers into two, then having more population on these two servers would boost the popularity enough, timed with a few good updates, you could see a healthy development head for this game.

I can tell though the problem is letting go of the old servers. For anyone who doesn't know, it's not region based, it's just these maps have existed for years, but very often what you see is the history of old abandoned settlements, which adds some interesting mystery.

FFXIV is a tad close to Wurm , you can train all crafting jobs

i like empyrion and have been playing it on and off since forever but it kinda has the same issues with devs taking forever to deliver.

both games are ambitious projects aimed at a little niche customer base so i guess its only natural and unless someone like bill gates gets hooked on the game and decided to fund development, i dont see this changing anytime soon.

i too would like a better wurm like game to play, but yea, theres not really any good substitute. so i went wurming IRL instead. if anyone want to join my deed i might be persuaded^^ could use a good carpenter and a mecha handcart mechanic. and ofc lumberjacks, could use a whole raid group of lumberjacks here.

Anyone who didn't expect wurm online to die out a year later after steam launch was just a fool. The dev's spent the whole time just making a steam client, not getting the game ready for the masses (at time of launch, over 10K people had put on wishlist) and completely botched the whole ordeal to a magnification of 10x.

The game is done, there's no reviving it, but it won't die either. It's stubborn. There will always be those 50 people with 12 alts who keep the game alive. I still come back to it once in a while. It's the only game to play while you're doing research/studying.

It's a maddening/crazy experience where you meet the best of friends, but neither of you can stand grinding any longer and eventually... one of you disappears. Signs get posted, "Where are you? my Best Friend?" and silence. Nothing but a graveyard of deeds for miles. Only griffin in chat talking to himself. The game has seen better days, but it's still a game I love. I just can't bring myself to give it money anymore.

I know i sound like a doomsday person but honestly... I'm that guy that loved you dearly, but you never changed the problems in our relationship, and I just can't forget you but I also can't forgive you. I keep coming back now and then, every couple of months... lingering to the euphoria you used to give me. I love who you are, but can't be with you. I'm sorry my love, but you are nothing more than a fleeting memory I adore.

I love the game but i gotta say, even when I started playing it around 2008 it was already fairly well known at the time as a grind fest for people who wanted to do something while playing TV.
I would assume anyone who did not like such a thing would not play the game. it would be a bit like playing COD but one does not like action.

Wurm is really a sub culutre of a sub culture of gaming, its really not for the masses and I like it as it is.

If they could rebuild it with better graphics, it'd be an amazing game. It just doesn't hold up anymore.

I feel the same way about Typhoon Rising and Global Operations..

surprised no one mentioned xsyon, it's pretty much the same style of wurm

Xsyon
Life is Feudal
Rising World
A Tale in the Desert

These are the only similar games out there. I know there's some still in development.

For a space version Dual Universe and Starbase offer a lot of creativity

Wild Terra (1 or 2) is similar (but no terraforming), Ultima Online as the grandfather of this game is of course very similar (but no terraforming), there is Black Desert Online though it has no house building and terraforming, you can try Minecraft as well though it is simpler of course and less grindy and you can only do small private servers for the newer Bedrock version (the Java version has lots of larger free server). Xsyon is similar but a lot darker and with fewer people and looks worse.
A tale in the desert is equally grindy and crafting complex but it resets every few years and it is pretty impossible to get forward without a group of player and there is a very small player base only.
You could even look at Ark: Survival and join a free private server, but it has no terraforming and is less complex in crafting.

If you want something very similar, but a little faster pace than Wurm, you could try the Epic Cluster in Wurm. You can only reach these lands from the old (Southern Freedom Isles) servers through an Epic Gate, but they are on a different rule set with much faster crafting and, up to about level 70, much, much faster effective skill increases. It's PvP, but each kingdom has its own home server that is relatively safe and much more like PvE. Personally, I find the default Freedom Isles on Wurm too much of a slow grind, but making and doing stuff on Epic quite fun. Only caveat is that your skills don't transfer back to Freedom (obviously, because everyone would just skill up on Epic)... but then if you get hooked on the faster game play, that may not be an issue.

Exactly!!!!! I would LOVE to play Wurm if it had better graphics!

Salem The Game is pretty fun, no monthly sub or p2w ♥♥♥♥ just cosmetics that can be lost in a full loot pvp enviroment.

Could play Mortal Online 1/2 if you want a worse experience than WU/WO

probably because it has even less players than Wurm does.
