Does this include the origional music?
I've been checking the new soundtrack on youtube, and while it's nice, I much prefer the origional soundtrack. Is there an option to use the old music in the remake?

In the options under sound settings you have Original soundtrack that you can enable or disable. It's been so many years since I heard the original that I can't say how close it really is to the original but I do remember the music I hear at the start of the first level in this remake.

Original soundtrack seemed to be on by default for me. Now I'm wondering what the heck the new soundtrack is.

I know. I meant I wonder what it sounds like. I'm still on my first playthrough so I'll need to find out after that.

OK tried out the new music for the first level and I'm left wondering why they bothered. It's not awful but the original was fine and I think I prefer the original.

The biggest problem with the arranged soundtrack imo is that some of the classic OST's tracks were fully orchestrated, while the arranged versions of those tracks are synthesized instead. Normally the point of an arranged soundtrack in a remake/remaster is to -increase- the production value/scale/tech of the soundtrack (ex. the Demon Souls remake soundtrack has a full orchestra, while the original was entirely synthesized. See also the Danny B remaster of the Cave Story OST, which was composed with modern tech rather than the comparatively primitive ORG Maker app), but in this case they went in the opposite direction for the originally-orchestral tracks.

Granted, they had Saori Kobayashi do the arrangement (the composer for Saga/Orta/Crimson Dragon), so it seems like the idea was to try to have the arrangement's tone "match" the rest of the series, and I certainly think she did a great job of that, but imo something is lost when you get rid of the orchestration like that, so it's definitely a double-edged sword that's not going to vibe with everyone.
