Eating fish with an xbox controller

I really like this game! I really do. I can play it for hours without gettting Kitty home, however this is still my primary goal. The problem I have is with regards to the fish, however long I push the red (b) button, the fish never gets really eaten. I do see the skeleton appear, but I do not get the achievement. I guess it must be me (or my controller). Has anyone had the same thing happen? It's already the third time that I started a new game. So I am really like: 'Help, please'! How do you guys manage to eat the fish?

The "jumping" animation on the B means to Smash that button.

As with... most games. If single press, or hold, don't work, tap repeatedly.
