Is my 'Auto Switch Weapon Pod' on or off by default?
On my gunner, I just unlocked the option and I have the mixed gun, but I don't know if I need to click the ability on or if it's on by default, there's no tooltip. It changes color when clicked, I just don't know what this means.

If the weapons officer has the unlocked ability, it is turned on by default at the start of the mission. On your screenshot it is currently off. One important note, that if you manually switch weapons, it will turn off auto switching as well.
