Mighty Guard World of Ruin attempting to get it Via Landray
It can't be done unless you have some ungodly speed stat. Tried with preemptive Hermes sandles trying to get stop off before the sap kills the enemy. No way this can be done. Only other option is to get it via mover or guardian in the final dungeon. Ive tried setting everything to wait and slowest battle speed no dice. sap will hit even during the stop animation IF you make it that close. Not sure what other options there is.

The way that I managed to learn this via the Land Ray was to equip one party member with the Gale Hairpin (they can be bought in Nikeah), bring along Relm for her Sketch command, and then roll random battles until everything aligned and the Gale Hairpin allowed me to Sketch the Land Ray before it died.

It took a fair few attempts and none of the above is guaranteed, so it is still entirely down to luck but it is possible. Arguably less frustrating than rolling Joker's Death with Setzer's Slots command, too.

This is the best way to do it. The only alternate way to do it is to have Gau learn Landray on the Veldt and then Rage with Strago watching. It sounds easier to do it on the Veldt, but it's not.

Put Gale Hairpin and Alarm Earring on Strago, put Miracle Shoes or regular haste shoes (i forgot name) on Realm and have them be the only two in the party and Realm in the Top/Leader spot. Put the battle speed on slowest. Keep searching till you get a Pre-emptive strike against Landray and Peepers. When you start, Sketch the landray and press UP to select him as quickly as possible (if you press Down, youll have to press it twice).

Man even autobattle on a preemptive attack is not fast enough, sometimes I can get locke to mug and steal some elixirs but relm never sketches fast enough, am I really going to have to grind out speed? I don't remember the SNES game having enemies take turns this quickly.

I had no problem doing it with a preemptive attack and sketch. I did put Hermes shoes on Relm though.

I had miracle shoes on, but I did have to put in some levels with Odin in order for her to be fast enough to sketch before they died. Behemoth Suit, Cat Ear Hood weren't enough I suppose I could have used a merit award to give her lightbringer

Weird. Other than the Behemoth Suit (which I'd forgotten I used), I didn't have to do any of that.

like I'd get the preemptive strike and I was in autobattle where I had ordered Relm to sketch before, but she just sat there.. and sat there.. and sat there, posed to sketch but not doing it until they ticked and died, sometimes they did an attack, ticked and died

But after upping her speed she was able to get it off albeit still inconsistently, sometimes she'd still just stand there not doing anything with a full ATB bar and in the pose that she was ordered to sketch.

ATB speed can be weird, like not always is the fastest the first to fill.

The worst thing is when Relm sketches Poison Tail instead of Mighty Guard...

Hello there, you might need Relm's Magic stats to be at least 52 (recommended for the Sketch to successfully trigger Mighty Guard (and equip the highest Magic stats rush on her.) The Magic Bonus stats upon level up Esper might help you to achieve that.

https://www.twitch.tv/cloudcolin/clip/EnjoyableDifferentDeerSquadGoals-g3z1I9563y3zY-Bj

If Relm's Magic stat is too low, Poison Tail might be the result, so if you have her Magic stats at 52 or higher that should not be a problem any longer. Over here, Relm's Magic stats are at 59 at the time when I got her to Sketch the Land Ray and trigger Mighty Guard successfully.

I hope this helps you.

Throw a remedy at it, and the Land Ray won't die.
