Do like me some cat scratch...
(but wait, which character teaches that rage? I thought stray cats were in FFV but not FFVI.)
Most powerfull attack for him. Stray cat teaches the rage.
But it also blinds you so you would need to counter that.
Actinian does 1.5x, not 5x. Stray Cat is Gau's strongest physical rage by far.
Also, Gau's magic rages are way stronger than his physical rages. You can solo 90% of the game with just Aspiran and Ninja.
Misread sandhorse's clamp is x5, but the rage is sandstorm.
Master scroll has ALWAYS worked with rages, especially stray cat,
and it still works here, it's just currently bugged, the first action gau takes after using a rage with master scroll happens like this Rage Name+action > Next turn > action > next turn > action > Next turn > action+action+action+action,
currently there's a bug breaking his first "rage" when he has a master scroll on, so it is intended to work like it always has, it just needs to be fixed.
refer to this good ol gif that i seem to have to re-post every time people mention gau.

hmm,,,
I thought it was a nerf, thanks for the explanation.
The Veldt doesn't have spawn rates.
Every enemy formation (including those that can't appear on the Veldt) is divided into 64 groups of 8. Once you encounter a formation outside the Veldt, it gets added to the list of formations you can encounter on the Veldt for the rest of that playthrough.
The game starts on group 1, and every time you get into a battle on the Veldt, the game rolls a number between 0 and 7. If it lands on a slot that you can encounter on the Veldt, you get that battle. If not, it moves on to the next slot you can encounter, wrapping from slot 7 to slot 0 if necessary. If there are no formations you can encounter in that group, it moves on to the next group, eventually wrapping from group 64 back to group 1. After a battle, it moves on to the next group.
This means the odds of getting any given encounter can be anywhere from 0% (if you haven't seen that formation this playthrough), to 1 in 8 (12.5%), to 100% (if you've only unlocked one formation in a group), but only when you're on the correct group.
The good news is, unlike previous versions of FF6, the Pixel Remaster doesn't do anything to screw with which encounter group you're on when you load a save.
Stray Cat appears in slots 1, 2, and 6 of group 7, and slot 1 of group 8. If you save after a battle from group 6 (Silver Lobo + Guard x2, Wererat + Bandit, Wererat x2, Doberman x2, or Actinian x3), you can fight two battles, and if you don't get a Stray Cat, reload and try again.
All that sounds confusing, but makes it seem like it's much easier to take advantage of later when you're dealing with a heck of a lot more enemies to sort through!
