Quick question about Cultists' Tower and Boss
So I've reached the top while underleveled (30ish) thanks to the auto and quick-save features.
Problem is... I was not quite aware on what to expect out of it lol. I'm a long time fan of the franchise but this may be the second time I'm running VI. That means I have no idea where to go next on WoR and ended up falling on this trap.

I managed to cheese the holy dragon with reflect and outdpsing so I really wish there was a way of doing it without having to come back later and doing it all over again.

TL;DR: Is there anyway to survive the final Ultima Cast when he dies? Can I do it by grinding his mp down to 0? Can it be evaded? Or should I just reload and come back later?

or get Phoenix magicite to learn Reraise, then after your party down from Ultima, it will raise them back up

If you rasp his MP to 0, he will die instantly and be unable to cast ultima.

You can also keep track of his HP and time a Quetzalli summon so that you finish him off with people in the air. Might be faster than depleting his MP.

Given how buggy this game is in regards to Jump I kind of wonder if that might trigger another bug though

This is correct. Reraise will allow your chosen character to return to life after the final cast.

Do not cast Rasp on him to deplete his MP, it'll take you like 30 - 40 minutes of doing so.

Magic Masters MP pool is absurdly high, 50,000 but his HP is the same, 50,000.

You can cast spells on him for over 1500+ HP a cast where as Rasp will only take off double digits worth of MP... like 30 - 60 MP.

You can kill him in about 3 - 5 minutes easily by just spamming spells.

Easiest Strategy:

Cast Berserk on him so he can't use any AOE magic. He will now physically attack you the entire fight and never change his weakness... He does about 500 HP of damage per attack.

Cast Vanish on your entire party so his physical attacks always miss thereby nullifying any and all damage he can do to you while he's Berserk.

Cast Re-Raise on at least 1 party member.

Finish him off, he'll cast Ultima, he'll probably wipe your party if you're below level 60 but Re-Raise will save you and you'll be victorious.

Thanks for all the replies.

So, I didn't get phoenix and reraise prior to doing this so that's not an option since I gave up but my auto-save is still before the boss.

I'm gonna have to try the jump strategy and if that doesn't work then I'll try the 0 MP one. I just wanted to confirm he wouldn't do a final cast when he hits 0 MP to avoid frustration over crawling thru a 30+ min failed attempt.

AFAIK Rasp was hitting for 300+ on random encounters and the Holy Dragon, so that may not be as long as expected.

If someone has any other idea on how to do this, please let me know.

The best way to deal with the Magi Master is to Berserk him and then cast Reraise on at least one ally. It won’t stop Ultima when he dies (unless you drain his MP all the way to 0 with Rasp), but it makes the actual fight itself pretty much a non-issue.

It will take you longer to Rasp him than to go get Pheonix and climb the tower again (you'll pretty much get 100MP for Pheonix by climbing again).

Happened to me too dude, had to bite the bullet. I was Auto Saved right in front of the cultists

I actually did the berserk + rasp strategy and it went fine. Took me 20 minutes.
Casting berserk on him makes this fight trivial specially because buffs don't seem to go away unless dispelled

Get Phoenix for Reraise and spam Phantom Rush on Cactuars (10AP) in the desert next to Maranda. If you encounter the worm instead (5AP), they're susceptible to Stop and weak against Ice. Easy magic farming spot.

get mog + molulu's charm and you can avoid every single battle and get back to where you are with no issues at all.

I went into this fight with about 3000 hp and Umaro... and somehow he didn't cast ultima when I beat him : / I was a little disappointing because I thought they had removed it to make the game easier (like adding healing buckes all over the place)

He is intended to cast his final attack even if berserked--he does so in other versions of the game, however in THIS version, if you kill him while he's berserked he does nothing. So it really is just a free kill to just cast berserk. No Phoenix necessary

i didnt get to feel his ultima attack i dunno why. he just died. i was around lvl 35 that time, with ultimas on relm, terra and celes. flat out died with skill damages. i did cast berserk on him though. its just that he never did use ultima.

So, I just started the tower. I don't have my magic party with me yet, but I just wanted to dip my toes and get them wet, and I realized. It lets you run from battles here. Previous versions of the game did not do that. Don't know if that's a "bug" or a quality of life change, but I'm putting that out there. Before, the only battles you could run from were the Magic Pots (the real reason I'm in here, to get this formation to appear on the Veldt)
