Scrolling stutter
So before I even get into the game I'm noticing scrolling stutter in the opening cutscene and some tearing. Turned on vsync and triple buffering, and tried limiting fps to just under 60, 57 and 58 since that was suggested for the other pixel remasters. No dice. While limiting fps seems to make the foreground smoother, backgrounds are still stuttery and I get tearing whether vsync is on or off. Anyone else seeing this or know of a fix?

Edit: The below worked for me at 60hz, borderless window, nvidia vsync on. Diagonals are a bit rough but vertical and horizontal are good on the foreground.

If you're on a high refresh monitor Palladin's hex edits on GameAssembly.dll may be more suitable.

1.0.4 out and still bugged.

People complain about it since september in the other remasters..

Are they unable to fix this properly? It's a new game broken out of the box.

This combined with forcing vsync through my GPU control panel seems to have solved the issue for me. And it was just updated for the recent patch.

Any way to apply this fix on SteamDeck?

The fix I used can kinda be avoided on SteamDeck by setting the screen refresh rate to 40 and setting framerate limit to 40, which plays nicer with the game's default 80 px/second walking speed. Just tested it and it's less jittery than 60hz but limiting the framerate does invoke some input lag.

You might be able to run the ffpr-tool in the game's install directory with wine, or just install the game on PC, run the tool in the game directory, and copy the files over to the SteamDeck install.

I'm a noob when it comes to Linux, but I will give it a try, thanks! ^^

Tho the second option of copying the files over seems easier :D

EDIT:

I just did as you mentioned with copying - installed it on PC, applied fix to GameAssembly.dll and copied it over to SteamDeck - seems to be working as expected ^^ Thanks a lot!

Kinda necro bump. For anyone wondering the new offset is D69ADA, found by searching for hex D2 8D 4A 3C E8.

The new 1.1.0 update doesn't fix this. Disheartening!

Reports are that ffpr-tool still works with the new update.

However, that mod doesn't fix the issue when scrolling is done by cutscenes, right? The issue is visible as soon as the opening cutscene, when the camera pans around the imperial capital.

It doesnt even fix it fully outside of cutscenes, it's still visible, especially when walking diagonally, but horizontally and vertically it is still quite visible for me even with the classic walking speed, but some of us are more sensitive to it. Let's say it helps to make it less visible.

Is this bug in the console version also?

Lovely. Well the opening scene was fixed, and the opening scene credits played just like they did when i was a kid and had it on my SNES, but that took almost 2 YEARS for them to patch.. I guess I'll just continue to ignore this until this tool is working better..

Just wanted to say thank you for this post.

I installed the game on my PC and then ran the ffpr-tool. I then copied over the dll file (the one which the ffpr-tool took a back-up copy of) over to my Steam Deck.

It works as advertised. Vertical and horizontal movement is smooth, diagonal is still stuttery, but that does not bother me much. The cut scenes are still stuttery in motion too.

Overall though it is a big improvement.

Does anyone know if ffpr-tool still works on the current version 1.1.1? I'm on the fence of buying FF VI PR, just wasted money on the stuttery Switch version and wanted to make sure that I can fix the stuttering backgrounds.

That stutter/tearing bug was fixed on the last update, you don't need any extra tool to make it work.
