Tried Golem and blink, status effects would still go through golem making it wothless and as it still attacks normally, not just the turtle counters the blinks barely last long enough to set up.
My current plan is to come back before the point of no return when I have blizzaga and try and duel wield spellblade it with rapid fire and hope for the best but would be good to know if anyone has any other ways.
I didn't switch anyone to Ranger as soon as it was available so I got a lot of ABP grinding to do to get Barrage/X-Fight/Rapid Fire (whatever it's called in this version). Just need to figure out the best place to do that. Probably under Bal castle as those statues give 4ABP if there's 2 and 8ABP if there's 5 and also easily killed with Gold Needles.
Blizzaga Spellblade doesn't make the fight any easier. I tried and rather than the expected 6k-9999 damage, it hit for completely normal damage values. I suspect it's a bug, but it makes the turtle extremely painful regardless.
First off, float on everyone to avoid quake, cast blink or use the ninja image skill on everyone, always recast before letting them run out and he just cant touch you at all. Toss up Golem too if you feel like you might not be able to keep blink up all the time.
Spam bards Requiem for around 2k damage or so, or your strongest ice spells. an Ice spell blade on a two handing mystic knight is the fastest way as long as you dont get luck screwed and miss constantly. I kinda remember heal staff hurting him alot too, but not sure.
Anyway. Keep up casting blink while singing him to death. Super easy. Boring as hell.
if manas an issue just give everyone the image ninja skill as bards and kill him with never ending shadow clones terribly singing him to death.
Honestly the Gil turtle path of money is like the light wariors version of waiting in line to get financial aid. Boring, slow moving line that takes up your time for free money that your slightly embarrassed about giving your time to get.
was trying a few different things since as TransientPeople above said the spell blade thing didn't work.
So i went in with a knight, 2 white mages and a black mage and decided to try casting reflect and bouncing blizzaga. Maybe it won't counter a bounce? it did and galuf got paralysed again.
So another attempt, ok this time screw reflect will haste everyone so faster and just quickly esuna my knight. Galuf(the knight wearing bone mail as he was before) gets hit with turtle and...no status effect...
wut?
Yeah dunno why it happened, his HP drained through the fight (lucky I put HP 20% on him coincidently) but when he was hasted he could guard for 0 damage, covered every one and got no status effects.
After Turtle uses it turn on normal attack, reflect blizzaga off the party (either all rocking the reflect rings or someone uses carbuncle), knight dodges the first counter and eats the second hit.
This would normally be an issue, but this is where mix command comes into play, set up the knight with protect using either dragon armor (phoenix down + dragon fang or protect drink ( turtle shell + turtle shell), and then have mix of antidote+ eye drops queued in ( cures old, para, confuse, berserk and silence) to clear the most severe effects of the landing counter.
If you need Dragon fangs to setup protect, Dragon zombies in Drakenvale drop them with 100% chance.
Buy or steal 37 Hi-Potions (the statues in Bal basement have them as easy steals, and if you grind on them, you should have a lot of extra money).
Have a Knight, and 3 Chemists with critical HP.
Have everyone float before the battle.
Equip the Knight with as much defense as possible (Bone Mail, Golden Helmet, Elven Cape, Golden Shield)
Then use Guard with the Knight, and the Chemists keep using Hi-Potions on the turtle. It should deal 1k damage per potion. Repeat until it's dead, zero danger and no need to train any extra jobs.
If you have Mix, you can combo Hi-Potion + Holy Water for 1800 damage per use. It's also cheaper as you'll only need 18 or so of each.
By the way, if you quicksave in the corridor the Gil Turtle appears, you can keep collecting money each reload. The money squares reset.
EDIT: Okay, I get the status effects even through Golem. I don't recall whether that was possible in other versions, but if so, it definitely makes this fight harder.
Float everyone first before the fight.
If you have lvl 4 white magic, give that to your characters if you want. If not make 3 of them white mages. lvl doesnt matter at all, nor does the second skill.
If you dont care for bard and dont have someone who unlocked the ability to sing, just change someone to a bard. Second ability again doesnt matter at all. 3 people who can use blink is plenty.
Each character casts blink till its on everyone. its only 4 mana. You will have plenty of mp to cast it as much as you need.
The turtle attacks twice each time.
Blink stops 2 attacks before it runs out. If everyone can cast it, There is no possible way he will be able to hit a character 3 times in a row to kill them before any one character has that split second needed to re cast blink.
This Is made even easier in this version, since you can actually pass your turn to someone else whos ready without needing to waste the turn.
Even if you only have just one person using sing as a bard. Your set. you dont need more. It hurts alot and is free to use.
Keep everyone with white magic at the ready while passing to let the person with requiem use it. This way, if he manages to take out both images, you have 3 characters who can insta recast it the second its gone.
No wasting money on items and gear. You dont even need anyone to have leveled up bard or white mage. Everyone can be Lvl 0 in the jobs while naked and you will still easily win without having to waste a dime, grind for anything, or use any specific gear setups.
Its really. Really easy.
I ended up going with 2x Black Mage, 1x White Mage and 1x Knight with everyone except the knight at critical HP. Spammed Blizzaga with the black mages and blink with the white mage on the knight (probably wasn't needed but just in case Guard didn't reactivate in time). The knight guarded everything just fine. I could auto battle after selecting everything.
Regarding Elven Mantle and Shields, yes, even if the attack misses, the status ailments can be inflicted. It's only the damage that misses.
Kept up Blink and Golem as much as I could, casting Esuna on those afflicted with Turtle. Float before the battle, thanks so much for that tip by the way. Without it, I would have probably punched a hole in my monitor. Offensively, cast Blizzaga and used Requiem, while healing and putting my buffs back up in between. What a friggin' pain in the butt.
On the bright side, I now have over 200,000 gil. ^.^
