How do you steal rare items??
Once you steal a SINGLE item they have no more items, unlike most Final Fantasy games where you keep stealing until you get everything... So is it 3% chance for them to have an item, 3% chance to steal it? That's like, .09%?

Stealing has a 40% chance of working, that isn't affected by anything but equipping the Thief Gloves, which them doubles the steal rate to 80%.

If the enemy has a common and rare item for stealing, there's a 10/256 chance it'll be the rare item, and everything else it'll be the common one. If you steal the common item, you'll either need to find the enemy again, or cast Return to reset the battle.

If the enemy only has a rare steal, it'll still be a 10/256 chance of stealing it - everytime it fails, it'll be the game attempting to steal the non-existent common item and failing.

Notable unique item steals (which you can't get from anywhere else or any other means) are:

-Genji equipment from Gilgamesh encounters besides the first (Gilgamesh on Castle Exdeath must be stolen from once he transforms) - those are all common steals so they are very easy to get

-Spear (Shell Bear); it's not that great but it's the only way to get this in the game, for some reason

-Javelin (Sand Bear); same as previous

-Dragon Lance (Crystal Dragon)

-Judgement Staff (Black Warlock, Istory Lythos)

-Murasame (Rukh)

-Murakumo (Yojimbo)

-Titan Gloves (Azulmagia)

By the way, stealing Dragon Whiskers from Shinryu is a more sane way of getting it than hunting Stingrays for their rare drop. There used to be a cool strategy to attempt steals and run away from him, but I don't know if it works in this version.

Aside from Genji equipment (because they are easy to get), none of these items are worth the hassle of getting them, imo. Just go for it if you feel like being a completionist.

By the way, stealing from the final boss is pointless, the game doesn't save those steals. Don't waste your time.

Getting rare Steals is about the only thing Time Magic spells are good for.

To get the goods from Sekmet or the Tinklebell or the Dragon Lances to take on Shinryu, you need to keep stealing and resetting the fight until the item you want comes up.

No, it's just 3% chance for them to have the item. If they do, you'll steal it like normal 100% of the time.
