do you get some item there later in the story or have i missed some invisible item?

Look in the grass

[Gumpo]

in most of the forets there is a hidden item a little off center - a bit down and to the right - in the patch of grass. If you walk straight up from the entry point of the map, take a couple steps in, and look right, you should be able to find it.

And the big chocobo forest has 3 of them, in really weird places, at least two of which require you to find secret passages in the trees.
