2) I don't really like the PSP version graphic style.
3) I didn't pay $18, I paid $11 thanks to it being on sale for -36% off pre-order.
4) I've very much enjoyed all of these Pixel Remasters and don't have complaints.
5) It's my money, why do you concern yourself with how I spend it?
6) PC version is highly moddable, unlike other versions.
7) Nice bait.
Don't want a PSP.
Sprite artwork of the PSP version looks like awful default RPG Maker assets.
OST of the Pixel Remasters is better.
Umm... Square Enix' business practices is just fine and I will happily pay money to projects I support. Deal with it.
this.
They fixed that ♥♥♥♥ like they should've years ago, and while I do like the PSP version some songs just sounded completely wrong there.
Same for DS, Smartphone and Steam versions.
I own older versions that I bought much later than their release date.
And yes I bought Pixel Remaster as well.
What can I say, I love all of them! They each have flaws but each have their advantages. My personal favorite is the first version on SNES.
Look, I loved the PSP version and all but I too think the sprites looked rather silly in it. They're not bad, but having so much detail with such a limited frame count really makes it look like the boring style of modern RPG Maker engines. It's like pretending to be limited while not being limited at all. It feels like hypocrisy in art form.
At least the Pixel Remaster looks like the SNES game, which was itself modeled after the NES games, which is where these limitations were born, and so it at least looks honest to its roots and has a sense of humility to it that just feels nice to see especially in 2021.

THAT BEING SAID, I do like your point about beautiful 2D art. But when you say that, I imagine something the likes of Lunar on PS1 where the sprites are larger and more detailed, sort of like FF6 but taken up a notch, and beautifully detailed towns and world map. Fully animated battle sprites like Lunar would be amazing!
I'm not sure how weird a Chrono Trigger style would look on FF4, but hey, that's a really beautiful 2D game too. I have no idea why back in the day they were capable of making such good art, and today the best and safest thing they can do is recycle or only slightly alter the original graphics, messing it up in some places. Maybe game companies are secretly jealous of the old classic games and don't want to give them too much spot light while still making some business out of them?
Imagine that you own a company where your best games were made by people before you or your employees. You're likely gonna be tempted to do your own games and give those the most attention... reality is not as straight forward as that, but it's somewhere along those lines. It's depressing.
Thing is, for the PR, you can easily find people doing mods for the new sprite because they actually sucks, the color are really poor and the sprite are really poorly designed
you talk about chrono trigger or lunar pixel art, but those are miles better than those poor PR remaster, that's the difference between actual genius and random devs paid to do a job.
But let's be honest dude, we won't ever have good "remaster" of such old games, just look at the answer on that thread, there's only kiddo answering, all they want is consume and be happy on the moment, they don't care about video games at all, they don't even know they could play those games for free with retroarch, available on steam now.
Why devs would bother doing actual work when they have an army of consumer ready to shield them?
- the graphics are very nice for what it is and that is a pixel-art game, so that is why this remaster does not look like the PSP version
- this version was meant to be a remaster of the original version, so that is why it does not contain additional dungeons and gameplay features from the future releases of the game, so again, it is what it is and what it was advertised. More less at least.
The fact that this version is different from the PSP version does not mean that this version should not be bought. It is just different. Is it worse than the PSP version? I dunno, maybe, never played the PSP version, but the fact is that the Pixel Remaster version is an unique and stand-alone version.
Why do you think that the PSP version should be considered the best version of the game? Why do you claim that the PSP version should be released on Steam instead? Only because you think of it as the best version?
#2, #4, #6.
I prefer the PR versions over the PSP versions.
No need to emulate when I can readily buy the PR version, mod it how I want, and play it as I have done so.
