Cecil pronunciation
As a kid, y'know not the best at grammar, would pronounce his name as See-Sil.

Age some years, and find out most people say Seh-Sil. WHY?

I hate the "real" pronunciation, please bandwagon to change to the much more Chad See-Sil

Canon pronunciation is CEH-CIL. End of thread. I said SEE-CIL for my whole life until it was emphatically determined by voice acting. You can say it however you want, but, the cannon pronunciation is CEH-CIL.

You are doing it wrong...
You can not just pronounce something any old way you feel like. The language doesn't work that way.
It was translated into Cecil by Nintendo of America, so it would stand that the proper way to pronounce it is the American way, which is phonetically see-sill.
Cecil is the unisex version of the name Cecilia. How do you pronounce Cecilia? Go from there. Pronounce it however you want, but that's how it's meant to be pronounced.
They say it in the 3d remake.

This is actually the furthest off of all the guesses. Cecil is based on a Welsh name. "Seh" is factually correct for the default name.

Cecilia is the male form of Caecilius, which is a totally unrelated Latin name. False etymology assumptions did lead to the spelling of Cecil though.

It's a pretty similar situation with Tidus from FFX. First time playing through the game you'd think it's Tide-us but it's actually Tee-dus, which is weird seeing that Tide-us actually fits him more IMO.

and you have the roman historical figure titus who is pronounced tie-tus. and the comedian same name same pronounciation.. people say tee-dus because japanese only have 1 sound for an i and it's the long ee sound. so KH comes out and his name gets said in japanese "tee-dus" and the translators and dubbers are like "maybe it's tee-dus?...."

it's bad translation
I know the topic is super long and it's in a linked video, but you are incorrect. Firstly while it's a nice international coincidence it looks like "tide" it's actually the Japanese word "tida." Secondly as per James Arnold Taylor, the pronunciation was chosen by the guy voicing a trailer in Japan. They chose to just stick with the way he did it Basically the story you guessed up is off from the facts

You can rename Tidus too though, so there is nothing wrong with pronouncing it differently. The canon way is factually "tee-dus" though, for his default name, and it has nothing to do with localization. It's all down to a random trailer voice guy choosing it.

I know this is gonna age me, but when I was a kid there was a Hannah-Barberra cartoon show airing back in the 80s but made in the 60s called the "Beany and Cecil Show". So my childhood exposure to hearing it pronounced was "see-sil".
to end all the arguing i've decided that you are all wrong equally.....

it's bob... his name is pronounced bob...
tons of people here arguing about how others pronounce a name and how they "think" it should be rponounced, nobody cares.... :steamfacepalm:

i pronounce it "see-sil" and will continue pronouncing it that way despite how others "think" it should be pronounced.

you have no authority or any means to tell or force anyone to speak words the way you want, deal with it and move on.

On one hand, yes, it's just a game after all.

On the other hand, how would you react if people you met absolutely refused to pronounce your name properly? "I don't care what you think your name is, I'm gonna pronounce it as Funnybones McGroove."
