Cecil pronunciation
As a kid, y'know not the best at grammar, would pronounce his name as See-Sil.

Age some years, and find out most people say Seh-Sil. WHY?

I hate the "real" pronunciation, please bandwagon to change to the much more Chad See-Sil

There 100% is a correct way. Yes people should say whatever they want, but "seh-sil" is objectively correct. If you read the topic it's explained.

its see-sil
Your persistence is admirable in its own way I suppose.

:motions: go back to page 1.. you shall see me there.. saying the same thing

and see-sil is perfectly acceptible. seeing as it's my cousens name. and how everyone has always said it

and no "different spelling" does not work it is literally cecil

edit: well actually it's more pronounced by him and my family "see-sl"

That is your cousin not the default character name. The "eh" would be wrong for your cousin because it's no longer his name if pronounced that way.

The original Welsh is "eh." The Japanese spelling is "eh." The voice acting is "eh." There is no ambiguity.

I'm not saying people should pronounce it one way. I'm saying the canon pronunciation of the default name isn't ambiguous at all
It's a pretty similar situation with Tidus from FFX. First time playing through the game you'd think it's Tide-us but it's actually Tee-dus, which is weird seeing that Tide-us actually fits him more IMO.

Teedus is fake, tideus is the only way
So, as an old fogey who named his overpriced cat Cecil Harvey? And played back when it was called Final Fantasy II?

It's SEE-BRAINDAMAGEIFYOUSAYSEHSIL.

I can definitely agree that your cat is named see-sil, at least!

and you have the roman historical figure titus who is pronounced tie-tus. and the comedian same name same pronounciation.. people say tee-dus because japanese only have 1 sound for an i and it's the long ee sound. so KH comes out and his name gets said in japanese "tee-dus" and the translators and dubbers are like "maybe it's tee-dus?...."

it's bad translation

That's an argument in bad faith, as we know Japanese people are perfectly capable of using the other form of "I". For instance, they don't say "tee-tan", they say "tie-tan". Tidus being "Tee-dus" is a deliberate choice, not a limitation.

It appears we have a steam community unanimous agreement that is its SEE-sil. Very nice job, boys.
So I can't find a source anymore for this but I swear that it was once semi-common knowledge that Cecil was named via a Nintendo Power contest, specifically it was named for the winner, *Cecil Harvey*. Explains why a developer that's so obnoxious with their name meanings (like other posts claiming the mispronouciation of Tidus is an attempt to force a particular meaning onto it) gave the name meaning "sacred" in the Japanese release and "blind" in the American release.

So, it's not in any way related to the Japanese name.

As for how to pronounce it, well, I don't really care. It sounds pretentious and out of place either way and his name is the one that I am absolutely going to rename every playthrough.
