1. Save Anywhere.
2. Alternatively, create save points before bosses (and a couple more in the final dungeon).
3. Add Phoenix Downs to shops.
4. Add more items that are not present in the game, such as Ethers.
The new stuff sounds great, but I'd like to be able to play with the original stuff too.
The quick answer: VERY
The real answer: It depends.
The detailed answer: Some of the games are very moddable, others depend. These ones... are between both in this point of time. We already know that fonts can be replaced, and some .bundle files open.
- A speed up feature, where you could speed the game up (x2, x3, x4, etc.) via the push/toggle of a button.
- Instead of having to hold down the dash button to move, how about a toggle to have your character (in towns and dungeons of course) auto-dash.
- I don't know (yet) if the game has this feature in the game in some way shape or form, but possibly a bestiary menu? (UPDATED: Just found out it's in the "Extras" section in the main menu of the game).
- Some re-releases also have what are known as battle boosters, where they basically recover your party back to full HP and MP (but they don't recover you from death nor do they prevent and/or recover status ailments).
- Another feature some re-releases had is where you could include a feature where you can toggle between having a normal enemy encounter rate, increased enemy encounters, decreased enemy encounters, or no enemy encounters at all.
SPOILERS:
I can confirm that Phoenix Downs are now available in some shops in the game. I just spotted this in the item shop in the Village of the Ancients (westmost town on the floating isle) and they sell for 1,000 gil each.
Phoenix Downs were normally not purchasable in the NES and even the DS/PSP/Steam/Mobile versions. So this is a nice addition.
Wait, what? How did you get that far in the game by now?
I mean, it doesn't take that long to get there, lol. Probably about a couple of hours in the game and you can reach it. I'm also very familiar with both the NES and DS/PSP/Steam versions.
I think I've decided not to purchase them in order to augment the difficulty. (Personal challenge + keeping the spirit of the OG.)
Unless this means there will be less Phoenix Downs hidden in chests later...
Gil will be better spent on better gear and High Potions in my opinion.
