Option to turn off map permanently
The mini-map and map in general is good. It's TOO good! It spoils the whole point of exploring dungeons and while there is an option to turn it off it comes back on every floor! It's too tempting to look at and kind of ruins the point of discovering treasures and making decisions of where to go in new dungeons.

Final Fantasy 4 3D Remake handled this perfectly, filling out the map as you explored was the best way to handle this. Or limit the entire exposed map/mini-map to Gnome Bread.

Agreed. I wish they would add this to the game as an option! I like the map, but it makes things TOO easy like you said. The game should remember if you have the map on or off and it should keep it like that when moving to a new screen.

Good news! In the 3 interim years since this topic was relevant, the community has made mods that hide the auto-map. Check out the Nexus or their Moogles and Mods discord.

Does the mod allow you to turn it on or off? What I'd really want is the option for the game to remember whether the map was hidden or not when I change screens. I don't understand why Square made it so that the map comes back on if you had it off when you enter a new screen. It makes no sense.

I've never used the mini-map removal mods and have no interest in them. So I don't know if they're toggled or if they just force it always off, but to find out, you would probably want to peruse the Nexus and research the mods yourself.
