Is there any way to sort a character's known spells?

yes, while in the magic menu, use the button for Sort. On my controller it is X, on keyboard defaults it is Q. Sorting type "Custom" allows you to place them in your chosen order.

However it is restricted in that you can only sort within the spacing of the spells you know. You cannot move a spell down into an empty spot, only move them around within the spaces currently occupied. So if you only know 4 spells, you can only sort them into the first 4 spaces.
