Maria was the very first female game hero

Ya know playing this I just realized it. I mean feel free to correct me and bring up someone else but as far as I know, when it comes to a strong supportive female who is tough and actually fights and supports a team, it was maria. Can't really think of any original female who did this in gaming at that time. Maybe princess peach in mario 2. But she didn't exactly start out as a warrior like maria. There were quite a few female characters like zelda, but all of them fit a supporting role to a male hero very few of them had their own game, or were even playable.

Maria was really the first lara, the first sonya, she's actually a pretty important figure in gaming.

As far as the mainstream Final Fantasy series goes, yeah she is.

What I love most about FF2 is that we can essentially create our own builds similar to great games like Dark Souls, so Maria can really break the mould of the stereotypical female, fast, low-HP mage types we are accustomed to.

Just give her Guy's starting Axe and let her tear stuff up (albeit swing and miss fashion at the start) :)

The game also has several other female characters as well, Hilda, and Leila, I liked that FF2 was an ongoing narration with a storyline and a big badguy and not just hidden badguy that you actually fought before (garland).

FF1 was also a great game but I like FF2 most out of the NES games. And probably my fav nes game next to zelda.
