Imo that's a very cool level up system. Reminds me of the Romancing SaGa games. I love how you can make your characters be whatever you want without being restricted by a class system.
-The weakest monsters and the strongest monsters help level up your skills equally
-You gain HP/MP naturally over time. Best not to grind TOO high for end game reasons.
-Stick to one type of weapon per character. Fists are arguably the strongest option in the game, ironically. Also look at swords and bows for backline.
-Everyone should have Cure / Life.
-Spells that can be cast outside of battle can be leveled outside of battle through use.
-The only spells worth leveling: Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Cure, Protect, Shell
-Shields protect you a lot, but also massively hurts your Attack.
-YOU DON'T NEED TO GRIND. The game is balanced that you can just plow through it without grinding. You may want to spend 20 min leveling some spells here and there, but it's very easy to overpower stuff.
-DON'T WORRY ABOUT SIDE CHARACTERS. You go through the 4th party slot members more that toilet paper. Don't equip them with gear, don't give them spells, don't worry about leveling them.
Leveling up Life seems pointless but the stronger it is, the more HP the ressurrected character will have. It'll ressurrect anyone just fine at Lv 1 though.
Teleport and Warp are also death-like spells (remove enemies from the battle) that can be pretty useful if leveled up. Just beware that if you use it on yourself to get out of a dungeon the one character who casted it will have very low HP.
Because of the weird leveling system, you may be tempted to do weird stuff to level up your stats, like be naked and slap yourself and your party members in front of the monsters. I'm not supposed to kink-shame but don't make it too weird for the monsters, please. :P Playing normally will be fine too.
Are you sure about the MP gain? My Maria was stuck at 10MP for quite a long time before I started using her spells.
HP is definitely true tho.
I mean, yea, you need to use spells in combat to level MP. But I was more talking in general - you'll level it up naturally over time through virtue of playing and casting spells in combat.
