The game punishes you for being strong?
I just realize after playing one hour that if you buy strong weapons and armor, it will likely take longer to level your stats, since the basic ones like ATK and DEF are bound to the amount of times you hit the enemy or the enemy hits you and not how many enemies you killed.

It is very weid since the purpose is to hit enemies as many times as possible is better just keep using old gear and not upgrade

Yup. I suppose they were just trying to "balance out" the system, or something.

Also, some enemies like the Death Riders in Pandaemonium deal more damage the higher your HP. In this version, HP and especially MP seem to grow more rapidly than ever, which is pretty funny considering that...

Just attack yourself. For some reason, in this game, if you keep cutting yourself with a sword you'll become stronger.

yes and there is so many enemy enconters that basically your HP becomes really high, abut all other stats stay the same since you more likely will be one shoting the enemies
Leviathan 10/ago./2021 às 1:21
Yeah, but you don't really need anything besides high HP and MP :D

And MP is optional (if you go the intended way, otherwise you need magic).

Just out of Semitt Falls and I don't think I'll need any more stats for the rest of the game.

enemies have their ranks, so the lower rank enemies you fight the less to aboslute none exps you get

Your stats boosting also has something to do with the skill levels. The higher your skill level with black magic is, the more likely your intelligence will get boosted. The game does punishes you for power leveling too much, though.

Like if you first build firion, maria, guy as mages, cause it allows you to farm the knights in fynn pretty early for some quick gil. It will get harder to boost your strength for example. So your first few hours will look incredibly fast in terms of going up in stats, but at one point it will stagnate and you will have to grind for longer periods.

You can pretty much run around without armor since your defense stat will increase pretty quickly the more you get hurt and don't bother recovering HP.

It's not a big deal, just keep whacking things, you will get your levels and your stats.
Im serious, don't even worry about it.

This. Everyone thinking you need to spend 10 hours grinding like a madman early on is just ruining the game for themselves. You can just play it "normally", gaining skills and stats organically as you play, and be fine for 99% of the game.

well the real problem is something else..the problem is that you gain the max possible level (weapons/magic) in certain parts of the game so soon that another thousand battles in these areas are generic, brain-less autoattack battles, bosses including and this status lasts til you move forward to the next part of the game where higher rank monsters are

I didn't do any grinding until the end of the game (to get 16 weapon and magic skill) and I was already so OP by that point I just ran from every encounter in the final 4 dungeons.

Drain attacks deal damage based on the target's maximum HP.

This is also why the Blood Sword is really powerful against bosses, especially the final boss.

Early in the game I just started to whack my own party after I noticed that's the best way to gain xp. Now the bosses and the majority of the enemies are a joke. Pretty funny though after the emperor makes his speach of being high and mighty he can't even survive one attack round

tbh. The whole part of the first 2 games isn't in general the story. The story is barebone and even though they fleshed it out slightly, atleast I dont remember this intro being inthe OG version, other than getting mauled by soldiers.

The first 2 games are pretty much part of the OG jrpg line up where the goal was just to grind to get stronger. You have access to the whole world map in the beginning, with the only thing limiting you is having a boat or not. People can simply decide to play it normally or just grind their ass of right away, cause you actually have access to some endgame drops too.
