Protect Ring bug
Protect ring dose not work against coeurl. a normal hit by them will insta kill a party member regardless if they have the protect ring equipped.

Elemental resistances only work against spells. Every physical attack is considered non-elemental in this game too.

Not actually a bug.

The real bug is that physical status afflictments is 100%

not a bug either

Thank you so much for explaining that. The wording of "protects from insta kill" lead me in the wrong direction.

It's no problem. Game has no manual and system is pretty opaque.

It is absolutely a bug. Not only does it not do what it says it does, I made myself immune to many monsters built-in status effects after giving Firion the White Robe; Malboros and several other monsters no longer popped status effects on him, although instant death and several other statuses continued to work.

Thus, some things do work, some things dont work.

Some enemies use elemental attacks to apply status effects, and some don't. It's as simple as that. If the attack is non-elemental, nothing will protect you except dodging.

And that is why Evasion is king in this game.

The problem is that only a few enemies, nearly all before you get access to status resists, even use status spells at all (and the ones that do tend to have pretty poor accuracy anyway). Off the top of my head the only ones that show up when these resists start becoming especially available are the Lamia Queens -- there's a few holdover Lamias and Death Flowers from several dungeons previous that are even less likely to move than to land anything. This isn't new, but it is yet another reason FF2 is kind of a bad game, remaster or not; those accessories were always borderline useless.

The bug, as stated before, is that on-hit statuses aren't supposed to be 100%.
