Can't Open Treasure Chests in game

I've been playing for a few hours and it's really nice to hit the nostalgia button on this game after beating Stranger of Paradise. My problem is that, for some reason, I cannot open ANY chest in this game. I've tried the ones in Chaos Shrine, the three in Matoya's Cave, and the I'm at the Marsh Cave and none of them are opening. Please note that none of these have special requirements (i.e.: the Mystic Key). There's no prompt like there is for talking to an NPC or looking at a door that requires the Mystic Key.

For context: I have tried using both controller (every button, just in case) and keyboard (Enter, as that's the designated "Confirm" key). My character can walk over every chest I encounter so I've tried pressing [Confirm] while on a chest, in front of a chest, to the side of chests, and even behind. I've looked over guides to see what they say, but none of them (for the 2021 Pixel Remaster) have mentioned anything about controls and I can't find a manual in the game pages here on Steam.

It's a glitch/bug if you can stand on top of a chest. You should be pressing confirm when you are standing in front of/next to the chest. So I would suggest exiting out of steam, rebooting your computer and trying again.
