These games could do with an Original Sprites mode.
So, only just started the games and have been looking at some of the discussions here. And, to be honest, I think calling these "Pixel Remasters" is overselling it. It's fine to want to bring the original experience to modern systems without all the extra content, but that's not quite what this is. All the spritework and music is ripped from the PS1 Remaster, which I have a LOT of experience with (thought sadly have lost).

So, what I feel this game (and the rest of the first three) needs is an option to switch to the original NES sprites and music. And, before anyone says, that's NOT the "Classic Graphics" mode already in the game. That's some atrocious CRT filter. Really, if you're going for the classic experience, why not go all the way and let us experience the game as it originally released, for those who don't have an NES or emulator for one.

Edit: The sprites and music are NOT re-used from the PS1, they are originally made.

I wouldn't be opposed to an "original sprites" mode, but I think you need to look up a longplay of the PS1/Origins version and watch about 30 seconds of it to refresh your memory on the sprites and music..

There is already a mod now for the Dawn of Souls sprites if you're interested: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2561708531 There a bunch of other mod packs in the works as well, if you take a look at the discord server linked in the guide.

Thank you. I do feel like being on the PC, the potential for mods for these games is definitely a boost. And, yes, I did look into it afterwards and I was wrong, the sprites and music are originally made for this remaster.

I can't see why anyone would object to a graphics/audio toggle.

I would love the GBA/PS1 sprites to be an option, personally. That's my favorite look for the series.

am very familiar with the GBA versions and I honestly think these Pixel Remasters look fantastic but I know what you mean with classic look there is just something about it :D

Why dawn of souls, but not the PS1 sprites they're based on? Face palm

Would be so neat to switch to nes music and tiles

Just going to toss this out for anyone that might still not be aware. This is why the remasters look the way they do.

So I doubt they even have the original sprites anymore.

Really isn't hard to rip sprites/disassemble NES games.
Kingdom Hearts 1 had to be rebuilt as the source was lost there too.

They definitely have the original sprites and any assets that can be ripped. The artists have said repeatedly in interviews that the original sprites were designed to utilize the color blurring of CRTs, so the sprites are redone with the intended colors for modern displays.

People saying the sprites are ripped from the PSX version is a giant red flag for people totally remembering wrong what the games looked like back in the day.

For the money, a merge of all previous versions, with the ability to swap between them before starting would be worth the price being charged for all the games as a bundle.
