I'd also point out that you can probably find an Xbox controller at Walmart or Target, whatever your shop of choice is, for around $15-20 for a wired controller, and it'll all be plug and play if you're using Windows. IF you're on Mac...it should be fairly easy to use too, but I think you'd have to make some tweaks in the Steam program to smooth it out.
Yea this game is super simple so mouse and keyboard would be fine. I played FF8 remaster on my mouse and keyboard for a long time. I eventually did switch to my xbox controller after like 20 hours so I could relax in my chair though, but it worked fine without it. I also played FF7 on Steam using only the mouse and keyboard. It's whatever you want to do OP!
I hate how RPG Maker games force you to use an analogue stick when using a controller... In a game that only supports cardinal direction inputs.
I would say that key factor is that all the games was originally developed for consoles, intended to be played using gamepad.
It can be played just as well on keyboard especially since it shows the controls at all the time, also I kinda doubt that Pixel Remaster will use mouse for some point and click controls, it's just that using gamepad seems to be more intuitive and accessible way to play game like this.
Interesting. I always had it quite opposite and was not much happy when the game didn't have support for analog stick since imo it's easier on the hand muscles to just drag the stick to the sides rather than keep pressing down directions on d-pad.
Even on my NDS I moved around in FF III and IV 3D remakes using stylus rather than d-pad.
I don't know, FF6(American 3) and Sabin's Blitzes were hard to pull off on the SNESX emulator I was using until I expanded the keymap from the default WASD to the entire keypad. And that was hard to do because it required a lot of "roll" motions like down/down-toward/toward. On a controller that was cake. Now granted, this is a VERY specific incident, and one that hasn't been repeated anywhere....to my knowledge anyway. I haven't played all the FF games because there's still never enough time.
Of course, I also had to ultimately relearn how to move with my right hand as opposed to my left one, which was a problem into itself.
