Invisible screen?

First time using the program, when I hit the add new window button I see 3 small icons appear, one being settings and the other an X (not sure what the middle one is) In the settings it will tell me what windows are active on my PC but it does not display any screens. I have found that above the menu icon that intially appears it seems that I can click the empty space and it will interact with my desktop (Was able to pause/play a youtube video)

Any suggestions for fixing the window display?
