Game worth it?
Costs 18 bucks right now, until August 20th.
I heard a lot of bad things about this game, but it stands on positive reviews nowadays.
Worth it? It won't be a Fromsoft game or Lies of P, but is it fun and worth the 18 bucks + playtime?

If you only care about the souls aspect, it's one of the worst titles out there. The animations just aren't up to par. It's not the worst combat in the world, but it's mediocre at best. Elden Ring, this is not.

But if you see it as an exploration type game, it's one of the best I've ever played. Imagine DS1-3, but x100 literally and figuratively. Everything in the world is so huge, so many megastructures that are literally dream like. There is no single generic level in the entire game, everything has a larger than life feeling to it. I never enjoyed a game world as much as in that game from the modern era.

So depending on what you want in a game, this one basically switches between random indie game and AAA blockbuster on a whim. The OST is terrific too and contributes a lot to making the games atmosphere as epic as it is.

I'd say, for $18, yeah its worth it. If you want a gauge of what the game is like...

Bleak Faith's combat is a bit floaty, the animations are a little bit awkward, and the enemy encounters are a bit meh, sort of like Dark Souls 2- however, the exploration and world design are top-of-the-list for Soulslikes, beating even Dark Souls 1 out of the water in terms of inter-connectivity; being at the highest point in the game and looking down and seeing the rest of the game world/older levels where you were earlier is strangely rare in these kinds of games given it is the most praised aspect of DS1, but Bleak Faith delivers big on that much at least.

The atmosphere and setting are on par with Bloodborne, easily, but the story is... thin? The devs have added more to it with recent updates, so you won't be completely clueless as you wander around, but this lore isn't exactly VaatiVidya tier- although, with that said, the characters you meet, as well as the entire last third of the game's world/story, are very philosophical, and can give you something to chew on mentally- if that's your thing.

And if you're worried about playtime, i'd say the game ranges from about 12 - 16 hours, depending on if you find/do everything- so about the length of basegame Dark Souls 1 without DLC. In fact, basegame DS1 also describes the overall difficulty, as well.

TL;DR Dark Souls 1's interconnected world with Dark Soul's 2 story and combat, and Bloodborne's atmosphere: imo worth the money.

Brought the game few days ago, was janky as hell in the beginning but once you get past konrad, the game opens up and gets really good. Respec when you want, no soulslike exp drop on death, lots of weapons with multiple abilitys on them. Honestly really fun, only downside is you can't respec your boss kill perks until ng+. There's even 3 kinds of summoner builds, one is from a passive and spawns a clone of you when you attack.

100% its one of the better indie souls-likes because it emulates the feel of DS1 with its interconnected world, but has its own unique setting, story, game feel, and imo in many ways its more ambitious with its world design then most AAA games.

If you go in expecting a smaller souls-like experience that has a THICK and heavy focus on atmosphere, and a pretty meaty story campaign, I would say 18 bucks is a STEAL (I bought it at full price and did not regret it).

Imo the game is also in a very olished state compared to the launch version, which had tons of issues and the devs have been working their butts of to get their game in a much better place which I personally feel the succeed on.

Been playing since launch and even before the changes I loved it. There was a TON of jank back then and the devs have gone far beyond what anyone probably expected of them. Play is much smoother now. There are some rough spots like animations that are not as smooth as an AAA game, but these details are minor in comparison to the scope, atmosphere, better combat, and so forth. Well worth it. I'm at the third boss STILL but something keeps bringing me back instead of angering me. It can be hard as hell but there's something rewarding about figuring it all out. There is basically NO hand-holding WHATSOEVER in this game. There's a lot to figure out, even in the proper keybinding for you personally.

What makes me sad is that it seems that after the last update for consoles, the game received a graphical downgrade. It no longer has the beauty it once had. Compare the videos, the screenshots, the lighting, textures, the fight area against Konrad. Everything now is dark and lifeless.

It's as if it has lost its shine and personality. It looks like they removed the finishing and lighting polish. The visuals are washed out and blurred, the color and shine contrast no longer exists.

This is actually a very insightful look of what this game has to offer. I personally like the combat more then other more well known souls-likes only because your character movement in this game is top tier and you have so much freedom with your movement.

Also while I agree some of the animations are kind of janky, in its current state the animations look pretty good, especially compared to the initial release where it had the worst looking running animation I have seen lol.

Overall I agree with you explanation of this game in comparison to others in the genre.
