Is my desert glitched?

I see the huge sand cloud where the worm is supposed to be but out of nowhere I have random eels from the deluge jump out of the ground and one shot me. I am nowhere near the sand worm and there is no sign of them before they jump out and kill me, what am I supposed to do?

I've never seen those snakes in the desert but you don't have to go there anyway until the worm is dead. You need to find another way to deal with the worm.

You have to find some ruins and go into an orb and it will take you to the Wormlord (the ruins are really close to the start of the bottom), as for where else you have to go? No idea. Not sure if that is what you're on about. Truthfully, I am lost as can be after killing it...

I killed the wormy and this made it possible to go towards the temple with the fog gate other people have been talking about. Wormy was really easy but I absolutely hated it, sad really because of how cool it could look here and there. The temple is where you gain access to after killing wormy, it is just past the area where it was patrolling, the huge patch of sand that was moving around, I would suggest not going to the temple unless you have recalibrated twice at least thats what I think you need to do to go through the gate.
