New perk icons are terrible.
I said that previous ones were AI generated rubbish, but new ones are even worse.
You literally have dude's weapon CLIPPING through the poncho.
On a static icon.
Like.
Come on.

Having played quite a few hours in Tales of Maj'Eyal and Erannorth Reborn, which are based on purchased assets, I now notice the same icons, the same art, and the same music in every other indie game. It seems counterproductive to me to complaining on the fact that indie gamedev uses AI art in their work. For a small team of three, AI art is a really good way out with the ability to get something aesthetically pleasing.

Why did they even remove AI art?

Maybe it was a place holder.
I'd rather have some simplistic pictograms for perks at this point, like in inventory screen.

apart from the controversy and that ai generation at the current state is a mess from copyright and ethic reasons, it also looked pretty out of place, the world is all gloomy, grey and blame inspired and then we have very colorfoul illustrations that do not look coherent with the worldbuilding, and the perks that werent out of colour pallete like vampirism looked just like a boring and lazy ai generation, just a women with very visible and incoherent marks on her face that always appear on ai when you try to generate smth more than just a human face. I guess what we have now is a placeholder, you can't do much in such a short time, im pleasently surprised that they decided to change them.

Hopefully down the road they can get some better art for that, it is not a high priority at the moment. But I hope they do, what they have now looks like placeholder art. It is functional I guess. But perhaps with some money under their belt they can address this later. Maybe the Ai Art they did have could earlier could be used reference material for who ever does do the art.

I really don't understand why people are becoming so butthurt about AI art if it's well implemented you won't even realize. Surely a game that surely consists of it might feel "off" but I can understand that i helps to minimize workload on such an ambitious project for only 3 people.

People seem to forget the most important thing which they confirmed multiple times - The AI software they used (for like a few icons and and stuff) was offline and only fed the art HE already created for the game, which then was photoshoped and refined. there is 0 ethical or else issue with that, but 'AI' get many people worked up (and for good reasons half the time - not this time)

There has never been any copyright issue here since the AI only worked on his own art, from a database of his own art, and they replaced it because of the controversy. There was a very small amount of secondary icons and stuff made that way, so it was not difficult to replace. They are also PLACEHOLDER for now.
