Is this the Plague Boss? Because if it is, it is likely the ghost guys that are hard to see floating into the boss' room.
You can only get to him by riding on the dragon.

but similiar to the damage the giant could do (and still can after the patch)
i think some damage and resist is kinda out of bounds
i mean you can stack all the magic resist you want, but i wouldn't test facetanking some later magic casters, even with a full set of con and hp they will send you back to your spazzed out orange or blue dude.
or some bow enemies just doing always pretty much the same damage even when trying building for different resists; although that's rarer (but does hurt even more)
You can actually walk around the edge of the arena until he aggros, which you'll be outside of the invisible wall. You can hit him through that wall with some of the two handed weapons or greatweapons. Best spot is on the bridge where you came from because you can use it to avoid some of his magic attacks.
