Controller Setup!
NOTE: LATEST PATCH "Breakthrough" fully overhauled the controller set up. This thread is no longer valid. Keeping the notes bellow as archive.

ANYTHING BELLOW IS NO LONGER VALID:

We noticed some people having issues setting up a controller.

Firstly, it is our recommendation to at least give Keyboard and Mouse a try (we understand people may find this unorthodox, but the implementation makes use of the naturally more responsive nature of KBM). Controller is supported and for the most part works well, but we've noticed your feedback and are working on a more extensive overhaul of the systems to ensure higher quality.

Below you can find common issues and their fixes:

Use Default Setting for Steam input:
-After further testing we found that "Gamepad with Camera Control" works the best.
-Right click game in your library, navigate to Properties then to Controller. Use Default Settings there.

Raw Input for Controller (can cause camera spinning or disabled inputs):
-Inside the gamepad settings there is a "Raw Input". Certain controllers such as PS5 controller require this setting be turned on. Xbox controllers for example need it off.
-Good way to check, if your key inputs aren't working at all enable Raw Input, and if camera is spinning uncontrollably, disable Raw Input.

Bluetooth Controllers:
-Several users reported their controllers working only while wired. Please try connecting with a USB if you are experiencing issues.

Dedicated Buttons on Controller for Jumping and Sprinting:
-Both Jump and Sprint can have dedicated buttons, but you have to enable them first via gamepad settings. Navigate to them and set them as you like.
-By default Dodge, Roll, Sprint and Jump are all on Face Button Bottom (X on PS controllers, A on Xbox controllers). Press once to dodge, double press to roll, hold to sprint and hold modifier (Default Left Shoulder) and press to jump.

Thank you for your attention!

At the moment when you go to inventory you holster weapons automatically, this isnt a problem if you want to attack, as you can, but if you want to block you cant until you either a) attack first to pull your weapons out, or b) manually pull your weapons out with d-pad. Also it seems like the analog stick has 8 way movement which makes moving along thin terrain really difficult. And when you do a 180 turn the character jitters around which is dangerous in tight situations too. Game has serious potential, combat is really fun and chunky/impactful, just need to polish it for the next few months. All the best
Really what are you guys on about the controller works fine
the original fixes worked fine for me so im curious on the updated layout but my one gripe is that i see the keyboard and mouse variant also has extra buttons for actions and not just quick items.. youve already added a modify buttom on the controller scheme to allow heavy attacks, why not allow it for abilities as well? It feels kinda restrictive to only having the two quick actions and then having to navigate a wheel to swap things out; otherwise im enjoying the game so thanks for the work.
Sorry devs, but this shouldn't be on US to fix. As the developers of the game, this is your responsibility to make sure the game functions before release. I've reached the point now that I'm less impressed that you pulled this off, and more disappointed that you released a clearly unfinished, unpolished game with little to no QA or testing. Assets are missing, movement unoptimised and general level design checklists not complete.
That's before going into the whole ripped animations issue (which I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about). Don't push games out before they're ready, even if it's your first.
I will say, you get points for sound design and cutscene animation.
You DO have something here, but it's wasted if people can't see it due to poor function.
I just updated my controller fix last night to just swapping out a new Input.ini file, here are the directions. This fix gives you a walk toggle like X on the KB&M setup which makes a huge difference:

- Just download my Input.ini file : https://www.sidescrollstudios.com/Forsaken/
- Pick the zip file Input.zip or right Input.ini and pick : save link as
- Then just go to : C:\Users\{you user name}\AppData\Local\Forsaken\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
* Note * If you don't know how to get your username just click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of you screen or hit the Windows key and then mouse over icon that is a round circle with a person in it, use that as your : {you user name}
- Then just copy my modded Input.ini into that directory above(so you are in the WindowsNoEditor folder) and overwrite the old Input.ini(the file that is currently there)

After the controller fix your new controller bindings are:

Left Thumbstick press : target lock
Right Thumbstick press: toggle walk
Left Bumper: is sprint
A: is jump
D Pad Left: is toggle stealth
X: is pick up and interact
Y: is primary item
B: is doge
Right Bumper: is attack
Right trigger is parry / block
Left trigger is the alt move set button

Hope this helps someone, here is a full post I made on it if you need more options and details: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1173220/discussions/0/3783625216789777527/

Disabling steam input makes a TON of difference. Solves the over sensitivity issue.

Understanding the jump modifier also helped. Feels a lot better not but still needs some getting used to.

It's rather dumb that there are not default keys set for some stuff, like inventory. Why?

Doesn't help the other issue though that the character is too fast and floaty..causing you to constantly walk off ledges and stuff. Hope the controls will be tightened up.
Their patch fixed that also make sure u run game locked at 60FPS which is recommended or 90FPS max any higher and the character can get wonky as u described. Also make sure use the steam default settings for controller now as they have it working perfect now and they got rid of 180degree movement too.
Never ceases to amaze me of how many of the pc master race are incapable of remapping a controller.

Sure, one could argue that you shouldn't have to.... but the game doesn't mention controller support in the info..... so....
The last update broke the game. Can't equip armor or weapons

Bummer. I've been keeping a close eye on this game. I haven't dismissed it yet, but I'm reluctant to purchase it without proper controller support. I am terrible with m&k setup for most games.
What a horrible game! I asked for a refund in less than 20 minutes of play! Adios Amigo!!!!!
Just purchased last night, so maybe the prior updates fixed gamepad issues?

Currently using a DS4 controller via BT, with Sony prompts, didn’t edit ini files or alter key mapping, and everything seems to be working just fine.

No DS4windows, either. Just native win drivers and steam settings.
Features still missing:
Bindable Middle Mouse Button
Rebindable Suicide function (Numpad 5 hardcoded)
Everyone should be using the set-up valcan_s posted. It's the better option and makes the game so much smoother and easier.
how to use special attack on controller?
