Fences 5

Fences 5

Unable to Auto-start on Win 11
Hi I recently switched from Fences 3 to Fences 5 Steam version. However I noticed that the application is unable to auto-start on my Win 11.

It is showing up in the Auto-start application list in Win 11 settings, and I can see the background tasks running, but the fences are not showing up on my desktop. I have to create a new fence to make it appear. Chameleon and Vanish are both disabled.

Anyone know how to solve the problem? Thanks.

Disable "Automatically hide icon when desktop is not in use".
Disable Vanish.
Close Fences configuration Windows.
Right click on desktop->View-> Check and make sure "Show desktop icons" is "Ticked"
Reboot and retest it. Report back.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. How do you setup your "Vanish" setting? Do you have the "Always show icons at startup" turn on?

Thank you.

Also, in your Startup, there are 2 Fences entries and both need to be 'enabled'

Hi Sean and Basj,

Thank you for your answer here. Yes I did have both "Fences Settings" enables in the Startup menu. "Vanish" setting is disabled, and the "Always show Icons at startup" is on (grey but with a check mark).

Still I am unable to have the fences and icons showing at startup. At startup, there is no fence or app icon on my desktop. I need to manually create a new fence and suddenly everything will show up.

Hope you can provide some further guidance here. Thanks.

Hi Basj,

That Reddit post was not me but I am in the exact same situation as that Reddit user.

I also have Wallpapar Engine running in the background with auto-start enabled. I am using Win 11 Pro 23H2 22631.3155.

I tried a clean boot and removed all auto-start applications (including Wallpaper Engine) and the problem still exist.

I think there is something in your system and the reddit poster system that is the same causing the issue. May I know what is your Antivirus/security application installed?

I am using the stock Microsoft Defender. No other antivirus/security application is installed.
