Hopefully, you didn't miss the matches.
Assuming you are in the spot mentioned...
You pull a lever to release coal into the burner. (A large metal cylinder.) You then must stand in front of it. Open inventory. Then use the matchsticks.
Slightly tricky. A bit confusing. Worked for me, though. Beat the entire game. On normal difficulty.
I can't say if your game is bugged. Mine was fine.
Many other games with non-hardcore movement will just use ledge assist or put interactive ladders next to gaps. The physics system in Industria works fine, but movement limits its use.
i feel dumb lol i tried them but i guess i wasnt aiming at the hole properly ty for this info!
On a table next to the machine with the burner. (This game needed to make it more clear which objects could be interacted with.)
Ignoring basic standards (like giving the player any indication that the object can be interacted with) and adding nonsensical tasks without any hints will make anyone stuck on an otherwise basic task. This is just wrong.
And yes, I've picked the box of matches, but since I've previously also picked up a record desk, and I've only seen something called "sticks", I've immediatelly dismissed it.
