What the hell are the controls...

I recently bought this game and decided to play it. Once it opened I was surprised with the no mouse control but it wasn't a big deal. I then tried using my keyboard and the only keys that worked were enter/space (I am still in the main menu at this point). I couldn't figure out how to go up or down to the settings, so i plugged in my PS5 controller and tried pressing every button.
The only ones that worked were the square as button 0 and the X as button 1. I still didn't know how to go up or down, then found out i had to hold the left trigger to go down, and if I stopped at any point, EG: hovering over the settings, it would move back up straightaway. I managed to get to the settings and found out that after i got to the controls configuration, that lots of the keybinds were not there. I reset to default and got them back but nothing changed.
I don't know if this is a bug or not and I have not seen anyone else with this problem. If this is a bug, it is a major one since i can pretty much not do anything.

I have (hopefully) uploaded a screenshot of the Carto default K+M control scheme. I am able to use both this scheme and the default Xbox control scheme at the same time. If this doesn't work, try verifying your game files or uninstalling and re-installing the game. If that also doesn't work, then submit a bug report. I hope something here helps, so that you can enjoy the game!

EDIT: You may also want to try having your controller unplugged before starting the game.

So if I unplug my controller the keyboard works fine, but as soon as i plug it in it stops working.

I'd guess that the issue lies with your controller then. You mentioned it was a Playstation style controller; do you have an Xbox style controller to try? Else, I guess just get used to K+M. The game is very slow paced, so it shouldn't be anything more than a quality of life issue.
