How to get Grendel?

Does his Summoning item just randomly drop from the boss in The Pit Lost Zone? I've done it a few times and haven't gotten him so I assume it's not guaranteed if so.

I got it from one of the bosses. I don't recall which. I would think any of the act 2 area bosses should be sufficient, though.

You get his summoning stone from The Bloodspawn, not from the miniboss in The Pit.

Just keep following the main story and you'll unlock everyone.

Continue through main story, he dropped for me from the 2nd Boss-only instanced dungeon. You should be able to get him before you hit level 10.

I should have clarified - you might get him from opening an exploration chest there but he is guaranteed to drop from The Bloodspawn and as it is a pretty early boss it is easier to just get to it. If you go to farm the miniboss without opening the chests though you are doing yourself a disservice :D
