Or is there a major story campaign that the majority of the gameplay time is spent focusing on?
Edit-i'm sure there's other people with a lot more insight than I can provide though xD
You can test it for two hours and see yourself.
Major campaign which is your main questline
Certain side quests can feel task esque because that was their original intent. But some of the side stories are nice. Some sad, some happy
Edit: Saw your other comment wondering if there was unnecessary bloat or grindfests involved. I mainly played Kryos after unlocking him, and didn't switch to any other Wayfinders, so I never felt like I was hurting for resources to upgrade echoes etc. I could see a hurdle if you were wanting to rank up all the wayfinders at the same time, or if you bounced back and forth between them too much at once.
At one point I found myself lacking gold, but I realized I was hoarding accessories for no reason and that quickly solved itself lol. You also don't really need gold for much anyway, as you find the majority of things you'll use just by killing enemies and clearing dungeons.
I would say, the only "bottleneck" I experienced was when I was able to focus on Awakening my Wayfinder. You need specific crafting mats that come from altering the dungeons with 2 modifiers. If you head-down go through the main story without really exploring or experimenting, you might find yourself stuck on upgrades at some point. The good news there is that the drop rate for everything is extremely generous. Even when I did hit a slowdown at endgame with no content left but Mythic Hunts, it took very little effort to get what I needed. I didn't feel trapped by it.
You can solo if you want or multiplayer. the choice is yours
I wouldn't go that far. Those games suck solo. This one doesn't. It's probably better with more players, but it's completely fine solo. As for this question about if it feels extra grindy because of the MMO thing, I would say it does in a small way. Some of the material costs for crafting/awakening are a little high. Otherwise, seems fine.
