How do you get skeleton keys?

They randomly drop from enemies. Once you get to level 30 they stop being an issue. You'll have hundreds of them with no skeleton chest to open.

You can also get a housing item which gives 1 skeleton key per 24 hours. But you'll also get them randomly from playing. Can't say I've ever run out of them

I keep coming across these chests and having no key. It's annoying. Should be able to get them while leveling up and not have to wait until endgame. =)

You can get them while levelling. The point about them not being a problem at endgame is that they accumulate so much over time that you stop having to worry about them eventually.
