How do you beat that wurm boss in Highlands ?
So, I'm trying to unlock Venomess. No luck so far.

First time I fought the boss I had no idea what I was doing, went there with a lvl 9, underequipped Silo, and got my arse handed back to me in a small box.

Silo is now lvl 15 or maybe 16, and still kind of underequipped, but not so much. Of course, it would help if i could drop any Ransom of my level, but all I ever drop are axes for Grendel. I'm serious, like 75% of my weapon drops are that axe. The rest were a few sword and shield, and ONE dual dagger.

I've tried again, but I still got humiliated by a glorified earthworm. I managed to take about half its HP before running out of healing potions and then out of HP. How many adds can that thing summon ? At some point it was an absolute infestation, and I simply couldn't dodge all the attacks, even less so kill them all.

Silo is my starter character and I have no oneelse at a good enough level, but I have some XP items stored, so I could level Wingrave or Niss, and I also have that gladiator lady whose name I don't remember right now, but I'm really not fond of her.

Should I spend all that XP on Silo, which I really like but feels really underpowered comùpared to Niss ? Do I stand a chance with Niss, with all the AoE poison ? Would Wingrave's sustain be of any help ? I'm more of a defensive / tactical kind of guy, so I don't expect unlocking Grendel would help me much (and i'd have to figure how, first), unless he's really so crazy strong he can cheese through the encounter.

Anyway, any suggestion that isn't "go watch a video of the fight" ? I'm interested in ideas and hints, not full walkthrough or spoilers :)

Best approach I've found is to use Grendel, his spin move chews through the little worms pretty fast. It's a cheese move, as you put it, but darn it, it works. I don't really know how I unlocked him, if I'm honest, it just happened as I was playing through the quests. But I've thrown everything else I've had at that worm, nothing comes close to what Grendel can accomplish in that fight.

Staying power in a long fight can be key. I did it pretty easily with Wingrave. You just have to use his Ultimate wisely, it basically gives you an extra life and a damage window. Fitting, since I'd argue that Venomess is the Queen of sustain, with a ton of heals.

The adds will keep coming, in fact it gets crazier in the last 1/3 of the fight.

Niss can make short work of the boss. Pop ultimate and spam dash attack through the boss. It'll take a 2-3 times. Use the potions that refill ultimate energy. Doing this will drop the boss in minute or two depending on difficulty.

You might be just a little bit underleveled for the fight. Generally speaking - you should probably decide which attributes you are focusing on and tweak your stats accordingly. You might also want to level your other wayfinders a bit for the talent points as those are based on overall wayfinder level and not just one of them. If you really want good sustain with Silo then I recommend that at least one of your focuses is Crit Rating and getting the Red Feast talent. And lastly - don't forget to buff yourself with potions. The good thing about open world bosses is that they do not reset when you die so you can just run back into their arena and continue if you die.

I fought the worm at level 9 too and barely got him down to 1/4th of his hp.
I fought it again at level 12 and got down to the last 1/3 or 1/4th.

I will definitely try again at level 14 and see if I can do more damage then, because the wurms and co stay at level 10 and dont auto level with you.

Thanks for the advice, folks. Much appreciated. Guess it's time to level the rest of the gang, and try again ! :D

Level 14 Wingrave and Grendel. Swap back and forth as needed and bring high break power and use the extra physical hit potion. That's how I did it.
