However, I don't know what it is but I just can't stop playing! everything you have said I agree with. The game is basic, the game play is basic, the difficulty is non existent, the upgrade system is terrible and build diversity is a joke. There is no sense of progression, even with BIS absolutely everything on every build the game feels like does when you have a few green and blue echoes with a base level 30 maybe a few seconds here and there on clear times. Ultimately it feels so unrewarding.
Give me something to grind and I'll do it no matter what it is and this game provides me that time sink and honestly I had fun doing most of it, the combat as basic as it is does flow well, the boss fights could be much better but at the end of the day when you are playing this kind of mindless grinder you don't want to have to have full focus every time you fight a boss, going into Beastmaster knowing it will be dead in 20ish seconds is better than a 5 minute slug fest when you know that the thing you want has a 0.005% drop rate. It is a balancing act that is done pretty badly in this game.
The drop rates as you mentioned are designed to be so low to keep you playing but there arnt many people that will do that and with release coming soon the more casual type players wont be sticking around long that's for sure. It's made even worse that this game isn't really a game were you can pick a main and feel progression on that character because upgrades are just a few stat numbers here and there and you barely notice the upgrades.
Overall, for me it was more an obsession to get everything done even if I would never use the weapon/hero/echo/accessory I just wanted to grind stuff, I was essentially done with the game after 500 hours but I am telling you it took me almost 500 hours to get 2 epic Hollow Horror echoes, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2! RNG yes but still who the hell has time to sink into things like this when the reward is essentially nothing more than 0.1% upgrade on a stat fully upgraded. I did have a lot of good luck though, epic acc sets in 5 to 8 kills, epic boss echoes in just a few kills, tons of epic echoes such as bloodletters, talon, archons, deceivers and vestiges. It doesnt really help though becasue you still need tons of materials to awaken everything and get he affinity points.
You have over 400 hours I have over 1k hours I know a fair few people hitting 600 hours so the game does have something, but it needs a rework in most things. If there was content to do that required you to get these upgrades to be able to do it and awakening systems designed around more than get 50 of this and 500 of this and some of this it would be a big help. I cant really see mythics and the raid doing that.
Awakening system could have been great, instead of being 100% material farm based it could have mini quests and challenges mixed in requiring the player to do various activities based on the archetype of that hero and so on and so on. I fully expect 4 and 5 to be the same style but just require new materials from the new zone and bosses, drop rates are being buffed which is nice but ultimately that's not the main issue. I did hear that 5 star would require mats from mythics and there will be raid weapons to farm out.
The potential is there but I don't think this dev team can reach anywhere near close enough.
Jesus I ramble on.
1000h on this game... what are you doing with your life bro. i hope you find some real purpose down the line. o7
Retired when I was 32 mate :) I am 45 now, I am a skateboarder for life (since the age of 5) made good money, had some serious accidents and now I spend my days trying to skate still (built my own skatepark) whilst mostly playing games. Just so happens when I started playing this game I broke my hip so I was laid up for some time.
Look who's trollin over here.
PoE has leagues more content than this game ever will.. and we already have a sequel coming to poe while this game will likely never even release to 1.0.
Ppl shut up after they realized that not everyone's life sucks xD. You living the dream mehn... hopefully ill be joining you in the future. Hope your hip is fine now. You go buddy :D
you have 400 hours in this game yet you complaining that the game is repetitive? Literally no game isnt repetitive after that many hours!!! Even games like PoE and Warframe that have had content updates for 10+ years are repetitive after the 100 hour mark! Not saying this game is perfect, there is a reason that after 200+ hours it is no longer installed on my PC while I wait for F2P release or a substantial content update, but come on mehn
BTW Wayfinder did introduce new content with new mechanics and new weapons with their own new skills.
