400+ Hours. My thoughts.
Currently I have 400+ hours. I am not currently interested in playing the game anytime soon and here is why.
-When I finally do get purple or epic echos for my build I am unable to slot them even at awakening 3.
-Grinding for purple Echos currently feels like water torture either it be a an echo from a boss or just one that Boosts individual stats.
-The game has become very redundant with seeing the same bosses and instances over and over from level 0 - 33 or, Awakened level 3 on many of my toons.
-Obtaining artifacts from bosses has no glory in it, by the time you actually obtain one you are so burnt out on doing the boss that the feeling, "I never want to play this boss again" crosses the mind. (Artifacts should be obtained on the first time kill of the boss, not the 100th. This would allow players to get the slight boost from the artifact while helping their parties and being able to have a sense of pride as their housing items reflect their in game time and accomplishments which they can show others that visit their apartment.).
-Weapon types are lacking with dagger always coming out on top, unless you want to role play in your own head as no one cares that you like 2h swords. Or, you play with S&B because you couldn't be bothered dying or taking a chance on dying as you grind hour after hour.
-Class verity feels ok but burn out comes fast with little reason to play a certain class for any given situation. More classes and weapons are needed to keep interest and verity.
-Group formation for any given instance or boss is random if you pug. However this is further annoying because once you que for an instance you can not change gear to help the group formation while in que or in the instance. This can leave the group with 3 Windgraves that are all tanked focused. (This could be solved with a role selection option, or the ability to change weapon/gear while in the instance.).
-Can't change weapon or gear once in an instance, so annoying I had to give it it's own bullet point after just having a point about it.
-Highlands the open zone of the game is boring with little to do besides job board quests and to be honest there is no reason to come here besides possibly grinding pyre world boss or worm world boss and that is only if you are farming vestige or Awaiting.
-Pyre World boss is a 30 second boss kill with a 2 hour timer that you might never be able to actually kill due to real life obligations and it's spawn time. Feel blessed if you are actually able to get into it's spawn rotation. (how sad to say for a game that should be fun, but takes the competitive and bread crumb route instead.).
-Story is boring and leaves me uninterested. It's an ARPG, I just want to kill, collect cool items, become a God and show off my dps, skill, or fashion. Not listen to all these poor people with problems of their fated lives and why I should care. I care because of drops, not because their make believe lives were effected by make believe happenings.
-Connection was an issue until I downloaded cloudfare warp to change my dns to 1.1.1.1. Although this is the first game I have ever experienced having to change my DNS for in my 21 years of online gaming.
-unprofessional communication or lack there of by the Dev. Team as to when to actually expect a patch to drop that might contain new game features or things to do. (Early February is not a date and really means nothing as far as an actual date. Its a general term used by people who don't know an actual date or have reason not to give it. Not very professional. Set a date and announce that date, if you have to push it back, say sorry and push it further down the line.) They used to have "Wayfinder Wednesday" but that tanked and given up on by them or so it seems.
-No reason to play other then hoping that someday they might release something cool to do in the future besides grinding the same zones over and over. Level up and gear up to do what? Nothing is gear score capped, in fact, once geared up, everything caps the power of the player so gearing up and leveling up seems for not at times.
-Current META. At the moment, the meta is don't die, speed run everything, and be in envy if a person in party actually receives a purple drop and you get a white echo on the same boss or mob as you know you might have to grind the instance 100 more times to receive the same echo or drop.
**Conclusion: "The princess is in another castle." The game's drops/rates keep bringing Anthem to mind leaving one just feeling frustrated and bored. Once you have the build you want there is nothing an OP build can be used for other then making speed run videos on youtube. The game currently feels unfinished and repetitive, as well, it is hence early access. Classes get boring to play no matter the class and how bad you want it to be fun killing the same boss for the 100th time trying to get an artifact, echo or vestige all to it not really doing anything for you except possibly grind more faster to get better gear to grind more faster. Welcome to the mouse wheel
My advice is play the game if it's interesting to you, but understand it is early access and has a very long way to go until becoming a mainstream game.

1000+ hours here across 2 accounts, everything awakened, every weapon awakened, level 30 and full affinity points purchased, every echo that means something I have at epic, every epic acc set I have, I have over 1 mill gold, 250k ish memory, 10s of thousands of shards left over and nearly every weapon vistage I have over 50 except the new weapon that's coming draconic maw I have 18. Literally nothing to do in the game anymore it's 100% beaten. You could say I played it to death :)

However, I don't know what it is but I just can't stop playing! everything you have said I agree with. The game is basic, the game play is basic, the difficulty is non existent, the upgrade system is terrible and build diversity is a joke. There is no sense of progression, even with BIS absolutely everything on every build the game feels like does when you have a few green and blue echoes with a base level 30 maybe a few seconds here and there on clear times. Ultimately it feels so unrewarding.

Give me something to grind and I'll do it no matter what it is and this game provides me that time sink and honestly I had fun doing most of it, the combat as basic as it is does flow well, the boss fights could be much better but at the end of the day when you are playing this kind of mindless grinder you don't want to have to have full focus every time you fight a boss, going into Beastmaster knowing it will be dead in 20ish seconds is better than a 5 minute slug fest when you know that the thing you want has a 0.005% drop rate. It is a balancing act that is done pretty badly in this game.

The drop rates as you mentioned are designed to be so low to keep you playing but there arnt many people that will do that and with release coming soon the more casual type players wont be sticking around long that's for sure. It's made even worse that this game isn't really a game were you can pick a main and feel progression on that character because upgrades are just a few stat numbers here and there and you barely notice the upgrades.

Overall, for me it was more an obsession to get everything done even if I would never use the weapon/hero/echo/accessory I just wanted to grind stuff, I was essentially done with the game after 500 hours but I am telling you it took me almost 500 hours to get 2 epic Hollow Horror echoes, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2! RNG yes but still who the hell has time to sink into things like this when the reward is essentially nothing more than 0.1% upgrade on a stat fully upgraded. I did have a lot of good luck though, epic acc sets in 5 to 8 kills, epic boss echoes in just a few kills, tons of epic echoes such as bloodletters, talon, archons, deceivers and vestiges. It doesnt really help though becasue you still need tons of materials to awaken everything and get he affinity points.

You have over 400 hours I have over 1k hours I know a fair few people hitting 600 hours so the game does have something, but it needs a rework in most things. If there was content to do that required you to get these upgrades to be able to do it and awakening systems designed around more than get 50 of this and 500 of this and some of this it would be a big help. I cant really see mythics and the raid doing that.

Awakening system could have been great, instead of being 100% material farm based it could have mini quests and challenges mixed in requiring the player to do various activities based on the archetype of that hero and so on and so on. I fully expect 4 and 5 to be the same style but just require new materials from the new zone and bosses, drop rates are being buffed which is nice but ultimately that's not the main issue. I did hear that 5 star would require mats from mythics and there will be raid weapons to farm out.

The potential is there but I don't think this dev team can reach anywhere near close enough.

Jesus I ramble on.

Retired when I was 32 mate :) I am 45 now, I am a skateboarder for life (since the age of 5) made good money, had some serious accidents and now I spend my days trying to skate still (built my own skatepark) whilst mostly playing games. Just so happens when I started playing this game I broke my hip so I was laid up for some time.

Look who's trollin over here.
PoE has leagues more content than this game ever will.. and we already have a sequel coming to poe while this game will likely never even release to 1.0.

Same thing here - 15 hours would not get you till the end of the story, let alone have you good gear. And you can still beat PoE in about 30 hours, the same way you can get through the story so far here in about the same time.

you have 400 hours in this game yet you complaining that the game is repetitive? Literally no game isnt repetitive after that many hours!!! Even games like PoE and Warframe that have had content updates for 10+ years are repetitive after the 100 hour mark! Not saying this game is perfect, there is a reason that after 200+ hours it is no longer installed on my PC while I wait for F2P release or a substantial content update, but come on mehn

Still takes 30 hours to beat. It is almost as if the point he was trying to make is flawed and one run through the story is not all there is to a game, eh?

BTW Wayfinder did introduce new content with new mechanics and new weapons with their own new skills.
