Free starts in February.
What you are buying right now is support packs for the Devs while the game is in Early access.
ah ok that both makes sense and is a bummer

wait, so you "buy" a free game to have a massive headstart over the real release and your character wont get deleted on full release? wth is going on in this market, f off

there's no real advantage to the head start. There aren't any leaderboards or competition in the game.

Also, what you are paying for, is essentially a donation to support development, and a pledge to help the devs test the game.

The game will be F2P on full launch.

They're scamming the early access system to earn a few bucks since DE wants their money before this project implodes from bad reviews.

This market? No different than the release of Warframe in 2012.

Bad reviews about temporary issues have very little impact, regardless if the level of response is warranted or not.

These aren't temporary issues if you're a MMO mate.
This is a core issue.. and bad reviews kill MMO's.

'Core issue' and 'temporary issue' are not mutually exclusive. It would be illogical to bet on server login issues being permanent, given that the precedent for similar issues upon multiplayer launch windows in the past were temporary. In fact I cannot find a single example where a game had this specific type of issue that lasted permanently.

Unless you are suggesting knowledge of the source of the issue unavailable to the public, and proposing that this will be an unprecedented instance of 'server issues during launch window' event?

I think the bigger issue is that this type of game is a congested genre, if you fail at the simplest thing such as your servers working, then you're setting up your MMO-lite to fail early.

It's a self balancing problem. Either the company will rise to demand, or demand will fall to supply. This is not the type of issue that will make or break the game. This is not intended to support the game, or defend the issue, it is just to be realistic about the type of issue being encountered, and the historical response to it in previous cases.

You wanna bet? I can give you a good example of server issues.. New World? Does that ring a bell? A million plus concurrent peak.. with server issues that caused the game to plummet to barely 150k users.. and further down it went and with sheer incompetence from devops/cm's.. oh it was a wondrous fire for months. Except this isn't amazon game studios with a massive backing from amazon funding.

You could be looking at weeks or months worth of server issues.. and most of us know this is just the icing on the cake because this is a free2play.. and if they can't handle such a small amount of users now how are they going to handle hundreds of thousands of free players?
Dementid Aug 20, 2023 @ 2:40am
While I don't believe we have a good way to determine which specific issues caused New World's decline with any realistic agreement, my stance is that the intricate weave of the many varied massive game breaking issues was the ultimate cause, paired with the game not being particularly novel or fun.

Oh, I can tell you exactly why New World failed so amicably. I was apart of that testing before it was even announced.. while we still used the horrific amazon launcher.. thank god they moved to steam. Besides the changes during their development, and really how they went from a mostly pvp game into a pvevp for casuals.. their biggest screw ups were their own doing. It was the sheer incompetence of their PR, and their draconian approaches to handling simple issues which exploded into massive ♥♥♥♥ ups.. the gold duping, the item duplication.. and botting to no end.. they had horrific approaches in dealing with those issues to the point they literally killed any reason to continue playing.

I appreciate your additional information on the subject. That would appear to indicate much bigger issues than being incapable of supporting the current level of interested players. I don't believe it would be controversial to say that leveling out login count/server capacity will be a much faster and easier issue to resolve then those issues indicated at the end of your post.
